"Chicks dig astronauts"---ahh if only that were true.

For those who do not know--I have a home in Titusville, "Space City USA", just outside of Cape Canaveral. About 3 years ago I flew for USF&W (we managed the land that is leased to NASA for launches--its cool to fly right over the pads... ::whistle:: ::whistle::).

There was a career day at "Astronaut High School", (all the streets are named after astronauts too), and I flew a helicopter to the school and had it parked on the outside basketball court. On one side of to me was a Space Shuttle Pilot who had actual moon rock with him and various pieces of space suit etc, and on the other side of me was the local Ford dealer who brought one of the new Mustang Convertibles.

Well you guessed it---when the students were let out of the theater where they were having lectures---they could care less about the astronaut OR the helicopter----they all went to the car. So young'uns---if you want to impress the ladies--Forget school, Forget learnin, forget fame and glory---just get a paper route and buy a mustang.  ::loony:: ::loony::

On a more humorous note--and I see the next strip in this---True story--I spent the whole day with the astronaut and the car salesman, and as is the case with guys, you just have to ask.. I found out that ones "boys" feel REALLY free in space with out a gravitational field to interfere and make them "hang"--specially when wearing boxers not briefs.  ::whistle:: ::whistle:: Sorry mom--its a guy thing.. ::whistle:: ::whistle::

Who would want to hang out with an astronaut? They have like 3 phd's, speak 4 languages, are in athlete type physical shape,... but as I read in a Garth Wallace book:

"4 flights, 1 in flight incident, ground beefing, 6 hours of waiting for departure, ..."

Astronauts call this a career. Bush pilots call this a normal day at work.

Spoken like someone who knows both jobs!  Hehe.   ::bow::

Ain't been an astronaut, and I don't have any phd's.  But I am finally flying the bush, and I am working on my Portuguese.  That should make a cool addition to my other two languages... English, and Bad English!   >:D

Maybe I should send an application letter to NASA... who knows?  Maybe they'd appreciate a broken down old truck driver!

Have any of you ever met an Astronaut?
Or had a beer with an Astronaut?

I'm sure this could be kind of interesting.....

Great strip -- as usual!!   ::bow::

G-Man, I'm glad to hear your interest in spaceflight includes such fascinating carnal details.  Now when I look to the heavens in wonder and awe, I can ALSO think of "G-Man's Underwear Studies"...    :o       :o        :o   (the skies will never be the same....)   ::unbelieveable::

And yes, I once got to meet TWO astronauts...  TWO!  And -- get this -- I was in line for the LADIES' ROOM at a huge Aviation Convention, and ONE was in front of me, and ONE was right behind me....  they struck up a conversation about their respective trips up there on the Shuttle, and I just stood there with my jaw hanging down to the floor......  WOW....

They were COOL -- AWESOME  --- FUNNY -- yeah, CHUCK wishes he'd been there...  of course, that'd REALLY give new meaning to "going where no chicken has gone before".....    ::whistle::

 ::whistle::

I knew Bonnie Dunbar in Collage.  She became a mission specialist Astronaut (not pilot astronaut).

Today she is President & CEO Museum of Flight, Seattle Washington USA

The last time I talked with her was a couple of years ago when she we invited her to dinner.
She was a quiet gal in college and I have never forgotten her.

She worked hard to make it and she sure was lucky......
