Title: ATA Airline goes Tango Uniform
Post by: airtac on April 04, 2008, 01:34:03 AM
I see where ATA Airline ceased operation today, closely following Aloha Airlines, who after 60 years, closed down citing high fuel costs as a large factor in their failures. Too bad too, that a lot of guys I've known over the years who put all their eggs in the airline basket are now getting screwed out of a large portion of their retirement. Of course there's always the exception and he would be known as Bob Justman, former captain for Aloha---makes me LOL when I think of this jerk losing his retirement--- (Bob if you read this--Email me your phone number so I can insult you on the phone too) Jim ;D
OH YEAH, I was talking about these 2 carriers taking the big one off the high dive over fuel costs----does anyone see any solutions---have you heard rumors---are they going to make seats an option? I mean, at 6' 3", I'm already crammed to discomfort on any airliner so if they can't put mores body in the tube, they need to increase fares, which are pretty high now-----------is it that we're spoiled by cheap fuel costs and won't pay high enough fares for the airlines to make a profit?
OUCH!!!---I went and did it again---I started thinking----I SORRY ::knockedout::

Once there is only one airline left, they can control the prices.
I wonder how all those new European Airlinies operate over there with ticket prices of around $50 bucks per flight....
They'll probably do what that new carrier in the US did... charge for everything from an inflight meal to a hankie, then sell advertising over every outside and inside surface.
ATA going Tango Uniform is very worrisome for me. I have even heard rumors of Mesa being on the brink. This will make contract work that much harder to find, and I'll be up against a bunch of very experienced guys in the marketplace.
I may regret going independent... ::sweat::

Having an excess of line drivers might seem to pose some difficulties, but it will be the guys and gals who look for the opportunity in any problem that will not only survive but will thrive. You've been around long enough to be a survivor so if you have regrets, they'll just be short term and opportunities WILL come your way because you're preparing yourself well. |:)\

Mesa is definately having troubles, and it's because they can't find enough pilots to fly their airplanes. Of all the regionals, they'd be the most "beneficial" from a pilot standpoint to be done away with.
You do have corporate experience, unlike the ATA and mesa guys. The mesa CRJ captains will have a CL-65 (same as the challenger) type rating, but the F/Os at this point there are all very low time with little experience.
