Title: Bored IV: Fly a waterbomber!
Post by: Frank N. O. on February 23, 2006, 10:28:27 PM

It's freaking hard! (although that's probably realistic enough). So far I haven't been able to put one fire out, most of the time I drown the plane while trying to keep it steady while scooping water up :(

Lol, how did you do? It's actually the first time I've ever seen a firefighter flying game at all. The side-scrolling reminds me of an old Amiga-game called Wings of Fury (at least I think that was the name) and in fact another flying game on that same site actually has a game that's clearly based on the same concept but enhanced a bit more.

The game concept is awesome, but it's WAY too hard!! I also tried for almost half an hour but didn't succeed... At least they should give you three lives, (like in real life ;D) so you don't have to go through all the menues all the time... Cool game though!!

You have to keep up the back pressure when you're on the water. Just keep tapping it.

cool game they need to let you use a joystick might make it easier.

Now what happens to me all the time is that after doing 4 or 5 drops on the fire, I suddenly can't pull my nose up anymore. I hit the right key but I can't stop the descent and eventually crash... I tried it about 10 times now, always with the same result. Anybody knows why that happens and what to do against it?

You didn't have a bird strike, did you? I've also noticed that my speed drops off sometimes for no reason.

Well done for completing it!
I think the main problem is the lack of feedback, you don't know how much you've moved the controls, plus the fact that they react slowly, really slowly, even for such a heavy thing I think. I haven't fiddled around with changing the power and speed yet, but maybe it's loosing speed from scooping too low, or from turning?

I noticed it does lose altitude in a turn, but doesn't gain altitude when you lose the water like you'd expect. If you keep an eye on your speed, sometimes it does creep down towards the red. I always accelerate off the lake. Not sure if it helps, but I like it.

How come fyrflyer is staying out of this one? We need you in here Jim!!!
Hey, do you still have the game we played in WMC? The two look alike but the one from your airtanker site was easier to play...

HAHAHA :D
I didn't want to admit how many times I've splashed the little sumbitch trying scoop water
And that friggin gull has killed me twice but once I get water the fire is a done deal!!!!!

WOW! I really Suck at that game!

I really think this game could be fun with a little more realism and analogue controls like a joystick, maybe even in 3D. With the semi-realistic physics like in the orignal Crimson Skies then such a game would be great, and life-saving as opposed to the opposite as it so popular now a days.
Mike, what game are you talking about and did you find it?

It's a game fireflyr had on an airtanker website. It's almost the same but slightly easier to play. It shows you how much water you have and so on and the plane can't change directions...
the problem is that we're both stricken with CRS and therefore can't remember the details or where to find it again I think...

Ah I see, except what does CRS stand for?
Speaking of airtankers (thanks for the giving me the right name) has anyone of you seen the 747 Super Airtanker? Holy heck, I thought they were kidding until I saw videos of it in action and explanantion about how the entire system works, wow! It also said the classic airtankers are nearing the end of their certification or such so they couldn't be used anymore.

Ah, I think I'll have to answer that, because people suffering from CRS usually can't remember! The CRS-syndrome is a rather widespread and little-known disease. It's more common the older people get, but also young people seem to suffer from it more and more. I have observed the first indications of suffering from it myself. Now you're probably wondering what "CRS" stands for... It means "Can't Remember Sh*t" ;D ;D

My mother calls them "senior moments."

I heard that's what you can call them and get away with from a certain age on...
At my age it's still plain "CRS", heh heh ;)

A variation of "CRS" is "CRI" or Cranial, Rectal, Inversion. This can be used to explain why you've landed on the wrong runway or landed gear up among other things--I have only heard of it having NEVER made a mistake myself!!!!!!!!!! ::) ::)

Hahaha good ones! About the gear-up landing then I remember the line: "What's the first thing you do after a gear-up landing: Put the lever in Down-position" :D

.... hmm.... now if I can only remember where I put it!!! ;D

heheh.... yeah... that trick works great... until the NTSB report comes out... then it's "woops"!
In the Air Force there is a saying about such things.... they call them "Atta-boys!". The formula works thusly: 3 "Atta-boys" = 1 "Oh Sh*t!" |:)\ ;D

LOL
Btw about rescue flying then a more simulator-style 3D game with firefighting could be fantastic fun I think, and a lot better than playing fighterpilot and blowing people up. There's been a series of helicopter rescue games for the pc called Search and Rescue where you fly types of rescue helicopters in missions, quite fun actually, and the helicopters are easier to control than in MSFS that's for sure even thought there are all the controls and hoover-boost, engine rpm management etc.

OK, lets go back to lesson one----- :-[
1. When flying, you must keep the machine in the AIR and away from the edges of the AIR. The edges of the AIR are easily recognized since there are indicators such as mountains, buildings, trees, and other solid objects---with the exception of AIRPORTS (which should be approached with caution) :-\ these objects should be avoided!

Maybe you should move somewhere that has no trees---the Sahara maybe? ::thinking::

that is the other thing i have learned about trees. trees are clever things they jump out on you when you least expect it they are like the spanish inquisition of monty python fame no one expects them!! ::unbelieveable:: ::eek::
