No, Brian, but sure enjoyed the articles! There are lots of great characters around, and this gentleman looks to be one as well!!
It's been quite a lot of years since I worked much in California... but I'll watch (and listen!) for him if I get over that way.
Maybe Mikey and Airtac know him.........? :D

Sorry, don't know him. Don't even know where Grass Valley is to be honest (top of my head) :P
Mom and I spend as much time in Nevada as we can if we can help it... It's "our turf". ;D
But it's good to read stories like this. I think fire pilots should be a little more outspoken in general to show people what we do and control some of the myths that are floating around.
btw: the amount of fires he's been to sounds about right in case some of you are in doubt. Didn't total my fires in 2007 yet but in 2006 I went to over 120 fires, not counting the fires we "set" working on prescribed burns.... ;)

Grass Valley CA (KGOO) is in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, northeast of Sacramento CA.

I've never been there, but I've flown over it a few times. Looks lovely.

Right on about the article... it IS always good to see the word get out... since some of the myths are pretty crazy, as you know! ::)
And, I'm hoping this season will let us see more of our favorite state, too.... ;) I was GLAD to learn that the big slash in the budget they were discussing last summer, apparently hasn't affected the number of our f/w on for '08..... so, that was good news! ::sweat::
Made MY day.... ::drinking:: ::drinking:: ;)

Ely Helitack actually has now more money than ever instead of being cut. The crew will be 9 people in '08 for the first time in it's history and is hiring a full time assistant for the first time as well...
hope I'll see you there ! ::wave:: ::wave::

Whats requirements? It might be a sign, I am graduating this year...
gotta have 6 years in fire, crew boss quals, helicopter manager signed off (CWN and Exclusive use) and for our crew either Alaska experience OR at least one year on a Hot Shot crew

Absolutely, I took two Scotsmen to dinner and a lap dancing bar in Houston during the 1982 World Oil Show (company credit card--customer entertainment) so there goes that option :P It was during the Falklands war and I had the sissy pianist at the restaurant play "God Save The Queen" after which the little wienie squeezer decided to add "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" on his own so I yelled at him and repossessed my 5 dollar tip to the applause of my new (and drunk) Scottish friends :D
