How not to chase a Baja racer... 2 Dead, 4 Injured. Rumor has it that one of those killed was a Drug Cartel kingpin from Tijuana. Darned if I know what he was doing watching the race from a helicopter.

looks like he dove down and didn't pull up in time. or did he lose the engine?

It's hard to see a whole lot in the video... the results aren't very pretty though...
Did they actually hit a racer?

This happened Tuesday, 13 November near Valle Trinidad BC Norte, about 100 miles into the race course. The press said the guy clipped a wire, which could be the case. This helo pilot had a reputation as a hot dog, and he was all over the race course barely above the racers in the minutes leading up to the accident.
I spoke to a buddy on the team who was in Ensenada Wednesday night. Apparently the syndicate wanted the Kingpin's body back so the family could bury him, so they had 50 gunmen raid the city morgue! They had a rather nasty gunfight with the local police, and an unknown number of police were killed in the fight.

so he wasn't part of a team then, right!?
I remember SCORE had us keep 500ft AGL and airplane and SCORE helicopters were watching and enforcing the altitudes....

They enlisted Panaca Jane 'cause it matched their companies colors. No trophy truck though. Some sort of Baja Buggy . . .
