Troubleshooting

I don’t know how many of you are familiar with Reddit. But those of you who are, probably already stumbled across “Tales From Tech Support” or “Tales From Retail“. I really think Julio has it easy compared to what some poor people working in tech support or retail have to deal with all day. My favorite call of all time probably is the guy who can’t see the difference between 0.002 dollars and 0.002 cents. I think it’s way longer in the original, but I found a clip on Youtube here. Although in this case, it’s the support guy who’s the moron. If I remember correctly, it starts out with a disgruntled customer who has been quoted 0.002 cents per MB of data used and was then charged 0.002 dollars.

Does anybody have any stories to share in that regard? I know that in aviation, you have to deal with a whole zoo of customers too.

Reading TFTS every day where I get time – just love the stories and everything they demonstrate about people…

I work as a Service Engineer in research industry. Our customers are scientists and technicians, so user errors are rare. But! About a year ago we visited a customer who complained about communication problems between the device and the computer. My colleague and myself sorted it out in a few hours, but the customer was really angry that this happened, and the atmosphere was quite unpleasant, to say the least. About 23 seconds after leaving the main gate of the customer’s complex, they called again, angrily saying that the device isn’t communicating YET AGAIN. We, of course, returned, and quickly found out that the device was actually turned off, hence not able to communicate with the PC. We turned it on, smiled and left with great pleasure 🙂

Does not work in O-F-F position!

O-F-F position is “Ocular Field of Fire.” It essentially means, “If you can see it, you can shoot it.” It also means, “You would not have to rely on OFF mode if you would turn the HUD ON!”
