The classic signs

The first couple of sentences in this blog are just to avoid using the words that would give away the punchline. If you have already read the strip, you can continue reading… So, overworked and underpaid. Aren’t we all? I’m sure there are a few people with cushy jobs and even some who are happy with their salary, but I don’t really know that many. Or maybe it’s because nobody likes to admit when they’re not working hard. At least I can’t complain about being fed cheap coffee. Not that it wouldn’t be on the cheap side, but as I said before, I’m a bit of a philistine in that regard.

So, anybody in here who’s NOT overworked and/or who feels paid well? Wait, that’s not the right way to get a discussion going. I can already hear the crickets and see the tumbleweeds!

I’ll admit to not being overworked, but I’ve never heard of anyone being overpaid…

All through the 1990s I was overpaid. I won’t say what my job was then, but if I had not gotten in the bad habit of eating at good restaurants four or five days a week instead of cooking at home, I could have socked away $20,000 a year.

Overheard: “Cocaine is natures way of saying, ‘you’re making too much money’!”

I can’t say I was overpaid as a USAF officer, but thanks to the retirement from that and my wife’s work and wise investments (no, I’m not being sarcastic — she’s very savvy financially), after I retired from the USAF I was able to work jobs I liked, not because we needed the cash. So, I wound up being the sole computer tech in a small school district, a job I loved (and miss almost as much as I do the USAF).

Now, we’re both retired, living in a retirement community, and busy as all dickens with volunteering and model flying. We have modest tastes, so we have no trouble buying what we want, without stretching ourselves.

Back in the day, I can tell you of a ship captain who begrudged you making too much coffee, which was the cheapest swill you could buy in bulk (of course it was…) The only expenditure being WATER and maybe some cream and sugar. NEVER underestimate the ability of chiseling assholes who squeeze a nickle until the beaver screams – and for no reason too
