F-14 Tribute!

It's not very new news anymore, so many of you will probably have heard about it before: The Navy is retiring the F-14 Tomcat! We've already been talking about it in our forum too. But since we like this awesome airplane so much, we wanted to do some sort of tribute to it and that's how we came up with this week's strip.

I have quite a few childhood memories connected to this plane. Not only did we build a bunch of scale models (Mike once built one that was quite big and with lots of detail... I think you could even tell the time on the pilot's watch! ;-) ), we also had tons of books about it and were watching "Top Gun" at least once a month or so. Sometimes, when we were riding our bikes outside, we were pretending to fly F-14s, with one particular road resembling the aircraft carrier deck. Ah, good times...

Some of you will probably have the same kind of associations with it. At least I'm sure that we are not alone with the image of the F-14 being forever edged into our minds as the Navy plane. A big salute from us to the retired ladies! (or gentlemen, whatever you think a plane might be... we were talking about the sex of planes in our forum, so feel free to join if you have a particular point of view in this respect).
