Santa Monica tower?

So I guess sequestration finally hit Roost Air as well. Or did it? Having flown in and out of Santa Monica myself I know that they just “love” pilots like Chuck over there … 😉

But on a more serious note, we really think that the proposed tower closures will have a profound impact on aviation safety. A lot of “small towers” on that list aren’t all that small and a few of them are feeder airports underneath or around very busy airspace. So please call/write/fax your representatives in the pilot organizations, your senators, whoever you can find to fight this. It will hurt us all if this goes through. This isn’t just about the job loss on the controller side, this is about safety and human lives. There was a reason why those towers were put in in the first place.

In case you haven’t seen the list yet and how many towers are actually on there, here is one of the links: http://www.scpr.org/news/2013/03/19/36446/smaller-air-traffic-control-towers-anticipate-clos/

Ah yes, more from the “Make It Hurt” admin. But Byonce and Adel at the party are still on as well as funding to study duck genitalia, why lesbians might be more prone to drinking heavily, and a billion other wastes of tax dollars. The rest of you folks? Eat Cake.

Spending on frivolity is larger than ever, and a false cut to spending of money we do not have means the frivolous never gets cut. (sequester cut the “budget” we have not had in 4 years snd funny. it “cuts” back to levels far higher than what we were spending just a few years ago when we were s’posedly wasting so much money fighting on two battle fronts and a missile defense system it’s largest critics are now telling us is perfect for protecting us from NorK’s missiles ) Keeping criminals in jail while waiting for deportation? can’t have that. Safe airways? Nope.

I’ll stop before I really get to ranting … and cursing.

I remember sitting next to the pilot on a jumprun as he called down to the ground that he was intending to “drop the load”. We get called by the ATCC and they asks the pilot if he has checked that all the reserves are packed by appropriate party and within their TSO spec’s, if the JM can see the ground and if any of the intending skydivers exceedes their permissable wingloadings on their canopies. We were so stunned we had to go around for a second final…

A controller at the ATCC who actually knows what skydiving is all about?! The guy must be freaking unique in the whole world!
