I don’t know about you guys but for us the Top Gun references never get old. That was such a classic movie we grew up with and still love to see every time it’s on TV. You can tell by looking at this week’s feature that we tried for a new record on how many Top Gun lines and references we can actually fit in a single comic strip. And since Chuck is a huge fan as well (even though his career ended up looking a little different than he envisioned when he first saw the movie – so did mine, btw) there might be more in the near future unless we start hearing complaints.
Any news on the sequel that was supposed to be coming out btw? Personally I’m a little nervous about it …
After last week’s comic strip full of Star Wars movie quotes, we thought we’d keep everybody in the spirit and post today’s strip full of Top Gun quotes. It is not our first strip of that kind, of course. All those movie quotes are some of the most challenging things for me to translate, when I turn our comics into German. Because my memory isn’t good enough to know all the movies completely by heart, and that in two languages, I need to find both versions, or scripts or short clips on Youtube to find out how a certain phrase was translated into German. That’s a really interesting experience, because it is amazing how much the original and the dubbed version sometimes differ. It can be a really grueling task.
Way to go, Chuck! There you happen to encounter some of the not-all-that-common girls who would actually appreciate a thorough knowledge of Star Wars quotes, and you manage to mess it up.
And we know that Chuck should know his Star Wars quotes, because he likes to call Jason “his young Padawan”. By the way, I wonder what other five episodes of Top Gun would have looked like. Wouldn’t it be great to have prequels set on aircraft carriers in the Pacific during World War II?
This is another one of my personal favorites. The artwork is great and the glider looks like you can step in and fly away. But the ending in this one is something we haven’t done before. We wanted to lead up to a certain obvious punch line and then end with something that makes absolutely no sense. Or does it?
Maybe our heroes are deeper than we think. HA HA, yeah, right.
Also, I have finally started to post pictures from my adventures in Oshkosh! Check them out in the forum under “Oshkosh 2011”. And join us in the forum if you haven’t yet. We always love to see new faces!
