How much runway does a 747 need? (some say one landed at my airport)

My mom just told me about a documentary on regional tv about the nearby Odense Airport and about the biggest company there that's getting a boom in busines after a setback, and are now also providing helicopter training also using a simulator (Bell 222 like their real helicopters I think). They said there was a big demand and their simulator would just cost 4000 DKK/hour as opposed to 18000 for a real helicopter. My mom also recognized the airport chief who gave us pictures and a airport chart when we first visited in 2002. There was a tiny tour of young people there too when the cameras were there. A pilot of the previously mentioned company who was about to fly a business jet said he always looked forward to come to work each day, oh yeah that's a pilot for sure!

Oh yeah, my question. My mom a person in that airport said there had once been a 747 there, but I seriously doubt that since the runway isn't that long (the second runway is a grass-strip).

You got it---most of us are busy on fires--although slow day today, I did see that Panaca Jane is in Idaho, albeit on the other side to LaFawnduh!!!

The runway at Odense is 6,053 feet long, and the airport is only 55 feet in elevation. There are LOTS of factors which would dtermine if a 747 could land there, including, but not limited to: weight, temp, elevation, flap setting, speed, runway conditions etc. It gets way to complicated for a helicopter pilot.. I ca pretty much land anywhere.  I would say that YES depending upon the conditions a 747 could land there.

Yep---I hear ya....When I flew tours in Hawaii we were supposed to have accurate weights of the pax to determine if they needed two seats or not. We came up with a better idea.....we had them sit in a plastic deck chair and stand up-----if the chair came up with their ass, then they had to buy an extra seat...  Not the best way of doing things but it worked....

Like I said---I can pretty much land anywhere, so I am not used to dealing with complicated charts and stuff like that.......

You can shorten it a bit... depending on how much you really want to be able to use the airplane again...

Good answer, G-Man. With nearly nothing on board (fuel or payload) it could do it. I wouldn't want to be on board. Getting the thing out again would be exciting too.
