Chopper Romeo flies back into Sue's dreams

A WOMAN is desperately searching for the Territorian she enjoyed a romantic rendezvous with . . . 15 years ago.

Sue Gower was hitchhiking through the NT when the man whisked her away in his helicopter for an afternoon of skinny dipping and passionate lovemaking. She has not seen him since -- and can't remember his name.
She knows him only by his flying call sign -- Whiskey. Ms Gower, now 37 and living in Lismore, NSW, said the afternoon was an unforgettable experience -- "something most people could only dream of".

Ms Gower has a classified advertisement in the Northern Territory News appealing for information about the whereabouts of her mystery man. She may not remember his name, but she remembers their meeting vividly.

"I had a white towel over my head to protect me from the sun as I hitched and I saw this helicopter circling overhead and thought, 'What's he doing?'," she said.

"Then all of sudden this creamy-coloured four-wheel-drive came belting up the middle of the highway to me and the driver said, 'My mate up there wants to take you anywhere you want in Australia'. I thought to myself, 'Wow, okay' -- and jumped at the chance.

"So he took me to a nearby cattle station and the chopper landed and took me up. We were just enjoying the views of the Territory. He was showing me the sites and we went out over an old World War II airstrip, then we chased some brumbies -- it was really exciting.

"We then stopped for a swim. I remember being concerned about crocodiles, but he reassured me it was safe and we went skinny dipping."

Ms Gower was hitchhiking along the Stuart Highway, north of Adelaide River, when the man picked her up.

"He gave me his name and number on a piece of paper and said, 'Come back', but over the years I have lost it," she said.

"But I have never forgotten him. He was really lovely -- a charming gentleman. It was just a romantic afternoon and I think that's why I never rang him or went back because it was so surreal."

Ms Gower, now a mother of two but never married, said she would "love to meet him again".

"If he's married I'm happy for him," she said.

The man is believed to be a born-and-bred Territorian.

"I think his mum lived in Darwin and his dad lived on the cattle station near Adelaide River," Ms Gower said.
