SmartPhones and aircraft tracking
« on: January 21, 2016, 11:12:40 PM »
I am trying FlightRadar24 on my Droid Smartphone.

It shows the aircraft in the patterns and touch the airplane and more details show up.
Touch the binoculars and the camera turns on in your display and where the camera is pointed and the aircraft in sight are displayed.
https://www.flightradar24.com

Found a medevac flight and followed it for a while.

I think I have that app. You need pretty good reception or wifi for it though, no?!

I can only imagine how much easier it will be to track flights when ADS-B becomes mandatory.

I'm pretty sure much of the industry already has it, though.

There is a bit of data transfer needed, so 4G or Wifi is needed.
To put it in perspective, Facebook or news takes a lot more.

Now I can identify the commercial birds that fly over my house.....
Nothing I use everyday, but a more fun to me than a game.
