Shooting over somone's head could also cause some problems.  If that's what you're considering, then consider that 500 gr (freakin' cannonball) at 2400 FPS (similar velocity to an M-16 round) is not going to stop for awhile.

Hey, Cj5_Pilot, do you keep a spotter buddy on hand when you fire that artillery?   ;D

The spotter is only occasionally needed.  "Drop 10 and fire for effect!"   ;D

I could only imagine on the bear.  Have never seen one and since I live in Nevada not much of a chance that I'll see any very soon.

Naw, but I need a spotter when firing my 45-70.  405 gr slug at only 1800 fps.  Plenty of time to recover from the recoil and watch the impact.   :P

Got a .50 Beowulf in an AR15 platform that would fer sher get those idiots' attention. 2000 fps, 335 grain bullet, 10 rounds in 10 seconds if you're in a hurry.

A couple dudes around Ugashik Lake have used it on moose.
