Anyone want some waterfront property?
« on: April 24, 2012, 11:43:39 PM »
I don't, but I have some now...

All I need to do is pull the floor out of my one shed and I'll have a boathouse.  (a friend took these pictures for me earlier today)

I'm supposed to be above the flood zone... obviously the water isn't listening.    There is an ice jam upstream of my house.  It seems the water is backed up badly enough that the water going around the jam is causing this.  I'm somewhat concerned about what route the water will take when the jam finally breaks.

I'm heading home tomorrow, I'm in the southeastern US now and the comment of "I can see the water rising" that I got as my friend was standing in my yard didn't really help...

Whoa! At first glance I thought "How nice! A house right at the lake!"

But I guess it's not as nice if the water is not intended to be there. You're lucky it's not a couple of feet higher though, it seems! Hope it'll work out without any furhter water level rise! We'll keep our fingers crossed for you!!

Gosh Baradium! How is the situation now? Is it under control I hope? or is the water still rising? ::unbelieveable::
I give that landing a 9 . . . on the Richter scale.

Thanks Stef,

Yeah, where the water is would normally be my driveway.

Fortunately, the ice jam broke yesterday and the water level went down rapidly.  I think all my neighbors got at least some damage, but I might have made it out without much more than maybe some problems with my septic and a shed that could have some items inside it that got a tad damp.   That house has never flooded, but that was a record flood so it was hard to know how high it was going to go.   They are doing some work on a rail bridge upstream that should prevent this from ever happening again (it'll force it to be well upstream of me in the future).

Good to hear!  ::cowboy::

Man, you wouldn't even have been able to carry all your stuff into the upper floor! Let's hope the record won't be broken for a while!

I prefer my spelling:  'Kewlbeans'

Yeah, its a bit dorky, but I like it!  Reminds me of my friend who taught it to me years ago that just flew west.   |:)\

The only downside is I didn't even get to see it in person.  It was like the moment I landed it gave up... was just there to stress me out!

Oh no no no no no no  get a Stalwart! ex British army ammunition carrier, fully amphibious with a draw back....................the exhaust stacks where so close to the load bay that the heat from them used to "cook off" the ammunition it carried.

One of the old timers that used to run the aircraft museum here told me that shortly after WWII they had so many surplus bombs, that when an ice dam threatened to flood a village they'd send a B-24 crew out for some live munitions practice.   ::rambo::  Too bad they can't do that anymore.  It'd save a lot of property damage and do wonders for Airforce PR.
