Busdriver: 478 kts that does not seem that fast... although I will admit that for my longhaul simming I am used to the 747 and the fuel being free...

Matt: I can recommend a nice program called IrfanView. Resizing is a breeze, and you can even have it make it in batches, having the whole folder resized is a question of 5-7 clicks then... I can show you around it if you want.

The boeing 747 is one of the fastest airliners out there, if not the fastest.   If you see an overhead view of one to compare to any other airliner, you will see a much higher wing sweep to it.   The 747 has more wing sweep than some fighter jets.

I remember hearing a 747-8  on flight tests.  We asked the controller what type it was becuase he was asking so many questions.  At the time they were doing .90 mach.  They said normal cruise would be .89 with highspeed cruise of .92 mach.   This is much faster than many other airliners are capable of going.

Also, did you notice he was doing 624 kts over the ground?

Also the -8 is capable of very slow flight. I worked a couple of their stall tests during certification, and often times I saw them under 110 knots (ground speed) and still going. That is one impressive beast of a plane.
