I thought it was pretty good.  Yeah they added a love story into it.  But got a lot of the historical data correct.  They did jump a few steps and put them from P40's staright to the P-51D.  Disliked the whole evil german pilot thing though.
WOW I did that!

The older version was the Tuskegee Airmen. This marks the second time Cuba Gooding Jr. is in a movie about the same group of pilots. Haven't seen it though, but I also thought the CGI was less than convincing. At least in the first one they used real planes, and no love story...

So, for a guy who saw the older Tuskegee Airmen movie (with the real planes) and knew one of them personally . . . .

should I go see it, or not?

Sorry chuckar101,  I think they really flubbed the historical data.   As far as I understand the first movie that Mike references above got it right and they aren't even close with what historical data the new movie claims.

Mike:  I was horribly dissapointed.  They didn't even get the period language right.  Wait for TV if you still want to see it.  As far as seeing how a P-51 flies, they didn't even see how ANY airplane flies.

We used to LOVE that show!
(still do actually)

AND they used real Corsairs in it! For a TV show! Probably unthinkable nowadays......

Well I'll agree to disagree on the historical data.  I've seen the old one as well, and it was a great movie.  Unfortunately that movie today wouldn't sell many tickets.  The problem with any historical movie, it still has to make money.
WOW I did that!

that could be a problem with the Boyington movie as well.

How many people nowadays (and I'm talking the current "Avatar" and "Twilight" watching generation) will even know who Pappy Boyington even was . . .

Unfortunately, the Pacific War is getting forgotten with it's survivors dying out.....

That is the course of every war, for better or worse. A generation that will never be able to imagine how it was once possible that you simply could not travel to Austria from Slovakia, when today, you do not even need a passport, is already growing up. The Cold War will be soon just in history, even though today, we all know people who were directly involved, or even we personally were...

lost of stock footage there, yes.....

but they filmed it only a couple of miles from KVNY where I work. the strip is still there and I ran into a few people who worked on the show
they had 4 or 5 real Corsairs for the show! 4 real Corsairs for a TV show!!!
those days are gone forever sadly....
