a)   Men who are pilots and dislike women in cockpit. (I had a really tough time during the courses with an instructor who was alike!!!).

Now I really can't imagine which instructor you're talking about. I really can't. Oh wait - it's the same instructor I had! :) But he didn't have an problems with me because I'm a man... haha...

This was an useless post basically ... I just wanted to remind Happylanding of the instructor she had ... :D

You wanna attract women? Get a girl!! I'm serious. One thing I noticed when dating, or hanging with friends, is that more women stare at me when I'm with a girl. I have a friend that I don't see often (she's an english teacher in South Korea), but when she comes home we go to dinner, almost everygirl in the restaurant always gives me the eye. I have to keep checking that my barn door isn't open, and that the horse isn't coming out!! That rarely happens when I'm not with a girl. So ladies, what's the deal with that? I dress as sharp when I'm out solo on the town, or with friends. As for the Pilot's license, I have yet to impress anyone with it, except for my friend from Korea, whom I have taken flying

the first question (re being a pilot and attracting women):  Nope, but that doesn't say much.  I don't try to use it to that effect and I'm not exactly good at the attracting side anyway.  ;)

I do have to say that if one wanted to, one could probobly go out to the villages and being a pilot is a pretty big deal to a lot of the natives.

Re: Women pilots.

One of my best friends is a female pilot.  I think she's a better pilot than I am, but she'd deny it.  It'd be hard to compare though, since we've gone such different directions.  I'm flying 1900s and she's going to be flying Seahawks (the naval variant of the US Army Blackhawk helicopter).

I was reading an old "have you ever noticed......." topic........so....I was getting courious.........

how many among you male pilot actively uses/used the excuse of being pilot to attract women?!?
And does it really work?

Actually, I try to avoid telling anyone I'm a pilot these days.  Typically they assume I'm a commercial pilot, and are then dissapointed.  Or they assume I fly a bush plane like a Super Cub or C-185 and are disappointed I can't take them fishing or hunting for gas money.  Then proceed to pester me about why I don't upgrade to a bush plane.   >:(  I usually end that by asking them "why don't you get your liscense and buy your own Super Cub?"  Except when my boss tried it, I asked him for a raise  ;D

To be perfectly cynical for a moment, I don't really try to attract women these days.  1.  I really don't really meet a lot of new people anyway, so there isn't much oportunity.  2.  I've discovered that most of the single women in my age range arn't worth attracting (Divorced twice with partial custidy of 2 or 3 kids and living the present boyfriend seems to be the norm.)  Of course they probably say the same thing about single men my age too.  :P

As far as women pilots go, I'm all for it.  Some of my best friends are women who fly (and are happily married as well).  And I really enjoy sharing the cockpit with them whether they're PIC, passenger or CFI.  So I guess the women pilots I meet tend to end up being buddies rather than a romantic interest.  Why spoil a good friendship?

Hahaha :) that's is good. it's usually the next question that everybody asks, apart from "aren't you scared?" (that sounds like a big stupid thing to say since were we scared, we would not flight, right?!?)

Ohmygod! that makes me remember that there is maybe a similar cause to my bridget jones status....since everybody I meet seems to be at least, best case, coming out from an important story, that risks to give me the job I'm not really good at of putting together whatever fell apart....and - worse - it makes me think that I'm every year nearer to the "...rdy".......thing that surely means I will encounter always less free spirits of my age.
I actually believe I will end the eveing in front of a glass of wine, a ton of chocolate and Chicken Wings so to revive my mood!!!!! :) :) :) :)

About men being "looked at" if they're with a woman.......yes, it can be quite true. I believe it comes from the fact you have a ....say.... glimpse on his behaviour when with a girl and sometimes it strikes too. Anyhow, I've to say that the only time I fell in love, it was looking at my former touching the controls of the plane... :) :) btw, it seems that what you said also works on the contrary side. we have an idiom in italian that says: "married woman, everybody wants her..."

It's the same for me though tundra.

First they don't believe me because I look so young and then try to explain my job to somebody who has never seen a forest fire or been in aviation....
I sometimes just tell them I am a firefighter and leave it at that. That way they can make up their own little "Backdraft" picture of what they think I do  ;)

Phil

Bridget Jone's is a fictional character from two movies and a book i think (not sure on the book part).  English, hopeless romantic, perputally single, etc etc.  Actually i find her character quite attractive... hmmmm....

Yes I watch chick flicks.....

Being that I'm from an aviation school, there are 1500 other guys here that are running around flashing the pilot card so no it doesnt work.  Though when i was home and told a few friends, it raised some eyebrows.

However, when i droped the card that I was an ATC student, their initial replay was, "oh your going to go collge to be the guy on the ground with the colored flashlights?"  I generally walked away after that.  However the few that knew what it was were greatly impressed, though im not sure why, quoting my favorite movie Pushing Tin, "air traffic controllers have the highest rate of depression, alcaholism, divorce and suicide of any profession."

Partly also one reason i have a hard time finding someone is that ATC and aviation is a big part of my life, and a lot of young women i meet have no clue, or think im a total geek/nerd.  Their loss.
