FAA Ends Ban on Depressed Pilots in the Cockpit

It's about TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

The FAA is only about 50 years behind reasonable acceptance of most medical matters...  this issue has plagued pilots of all stripes for years, and I've seen some great pilots who were faced with two bad choices -- either follow their doctors' guidelines, and LIE about it;  OR, go without any medical help at all.   ::)

It's encouraging to see they finally are at least trying to join the 21st century.....

I ain't a diagnosed depressive or anything, but a sure way to put me in an emotional ditch is to tell me I can't fly.

I know. ATC called me and I had to convince 'em it wasn't me flying that day. When I brought up Chuck's name, the guy said "Oh..."
and that was pretty much the end of it.

I haven't read exactly what the policy says, but they were talking about it at work tonight.  The cliff notes version of what I understood was that you have to be on them for a year without side effects before they may reinstate your medical with a waiver.  Pretty much useless if you look at it.  I know as controllers there is no way we could be off the boards for a year, then come back.
