Red Flag Fighter Video
« on: November 27, 2008, 07:47:52 PM »
All those of you who enjoy fighter jets and awesome flying footage, check out this video:

http://www.hulu.com/watch/24197/fighter-pilot-operation-red-flag

It's about 50min long but very worth it. (and this is coming from a chopper jockey). (only 3 short Target commercials....not even worth fast-forwarding)
We deal with this annual operation every year. "Panaca Jane" gets to put out all the little fires their flares start. It's about 3-5 quaranteed fires a year for us. In fact you can see the ground burning in one of the shots. And in the briefing scenes you can see the "Caliente East and Caliente West" MOA's. That's where PANACA is!!!
We usually get our gear ready once we hear the popping sound the flares make and last year the PJ's started a fire which is on the little youtube video one of our guys made. (just put in "Ely Helitack" in the youtube search)

It's pretty cool to see what exactly they do on video (even though they can be a little annoying at times in reallife zipping underneath you or above you or right next to you . . .)

Hmmmmmmm... Lemme think.   ::thinking::  If I survive the next Blue Angels open tryout, do you think I'll be allowed to participate in this?   ;D ::silly::

Just found this http://earleyedition.com/2008/03/03/watch-hulu-video-in-australia/. Look like you can download and install an application that will fake an IP located in the US so everyone in this planet can have a look at this video.  I haven't tried it because I'm not confortable with installing this at work.  If only internet can make it to my home, ::banghead:: I'll have the pleasure to bypass this restriction.  >:D

Oddball--Ya let ya side doon..

I hate to admit--my father was born and raised in the tenements of Aberdeen--it was drummed into me as wee bairn.. Although I may have the "official recognised" dates slightly off.

I used to own a home in Hillhead, outside of Forres, just down the road form Culloden---there is a wee place right there that does the best Rowies. Odd-- ya prolly call them butteries   ::whistle:: ::whistle::

I knew the rest of you "sasenachs" would ask so here: http://www.scottishrecipes.co.uk/butteries.htm

"Beginning of the Wars of Independence
In August 1296, Bruce and his father swore fealty to Edward I of England at Berwick-upon-Tweed, but in breach of this oath, which had been renewed at Carlisle, the younger Robert supported the Scottish revolt against King Edward in the following year. Urgent letters were sent ordering Bruce to support Edward's commander, John de Warenne, 7th Earl of Surrey (to whom Bruce was related) in the summer of 1297; but instead of complying, Bruce continued to support the revolt against Edward. On 7 July, Bruce and his friends made terms with Edward by a treaty called the Capitulation of Irvine. The Scottish lords were not to serve beyond the sea against their will, and were pardoned for their recent violence in return for swearing allegiance to King Edward. The Bishop of Glasgow, James the Steward, and Sir Alexander Lindsay became sureties for Bruce until he delivered his infant daughter Marjorie as a hostage.

Shortly after the Battle of Stirling Bridge, Bruce again defected to the Scots; Annandale was wasted and he burned the English-held castle of Ayr. Yet, when King Edward returned to England after his victory at the Battle of Falkirk, Annandale and Carrick were excepted from the Lordships and lands which he assigned to his followers; Bruce was seen as a waverer whose allegiance could be acquired."

I know Buttires as rowies as well. made the mistake of going into a local super market and asking for rowies, all i got was a blank look from one of the shelf stackers  ::rofl::  took me awhile to remember the other name.  The best ones come from the Granite City slightly salty and very crispy *insert drooling smiley*
