I know this is trivial but man what a waste of F$#^ing time!! ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: A dumb outrageous ridiculous plot, even for Indiana Jones! The end was so ridiculous, it would've been better if the movie weren't Indiana Jones at all!! ::banghead:: ::banghead:: ::banghead:: ::banghead:: ::banghead:: ::banghead:: ::banghead:: The only real good parts in it were the lovely old DC-3 and that Russian Biplane! (forget the name). If you want to see it, the best bet is to watch an illegally filmed copy online. You don't need to pay for that crap!!! I should've gone to Sex and the City. Supposedly that has nudity in it! ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: The kids might like it, but that's it.   ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining: ::complaining:

It was definately different.  I heard that spielberg wanted something much MORE outlandish for this one, that's why it took so long to get made... Harrison Ford and Lucas wouldn't agree to it and he finally did a lot of changes and they eventually agreed to it.

That's an Antonov AN-2 Colt in the movie btw.   World's largest biplane, also cheaply and readily availible.  There's a guy in Anchorage whose buisiness is selling the things.   Seems they start around $20,000 for a flyable airplane.   Cheaper to buy than a super cub, hold 10 times as much with similiar short field performance.  Only problem is that the 1,000HP radial is a mite thirsty... last I knew, it was still in production in Poland, and the Chinese build their own version that is a primary transport for them.

I was surprised to see one painted up in PAA colors, and was a bit curious if Pan Am actually flew the things (I'm quite skeptical myself).

I think I'd want to redo the panel if I could afford the aircraft.

Why redo? I can teach you to operate :D

PanAm never flew those, one of worse things about movie - inaccuracy

and about thirstiness.. it was certainly 250lph+ of AvGas, though I can not find reference now. Real data of real An-2.

And a bonus for you: http://www.agplane.nl/manuals/antonovan2/index.html :)

if you want inaccuracies on a factual based film how about the japs using a Beech 17 as a laison plane in Letters From Iwo Jima? so i think we can let Indie off by using a An-2 in PAA colours

I want that AN-2 so I can fly it around and confuse people.

"Did you see that Pan Am biplane at the airport today?"

"No, what kind was it?"

"I don't know, I've never seen one before."

"How big was it?"

"Really big!  Looked like it could hold 10 people!"

"Only one I know of that size is that Antonov."

"It can't be an Antonov!  It was in Pan Am colors!"

  • It's not an old plane, it's a classic!
I'm going to disagree totally.  I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.  It was hilarious, as I'm sure it was ment to be.  It certainly had a bit different tone that the previous indi movies, but was still fun.  And Harrison Ford still has that same S**t eating, cat-that-ate-the-canary grin.   ::cowboy::

As for accuracy, if I believed what Holleywood showed of aircraft in movies, I'd have to believe the top Japanese fighter in WWII was our own AT-6 Texan!   ::rofl::
Heck, Clint Eastwood got strafed by a German one in Kelly's Heroes.  ::rambo::

Long as it's the corner with my tool boxes, I'll be happy too.   ::whistle::
Have to go move my compass tonight anyhow.  Tried putting my new vertical card one in the panel, but there's apparently too much steel too close.  100 degrees looks kind of odd on the compass correction card.   ::)
