questions about WAAS
« on: April 06, 2008, 03:49:19 AM »
So I've been doing some instrument flight simming and I've been looking at this stuff about WAAS and all and I'm still a bit confused about it. Are WAAS approaches much different from other types? Does anyone know where I could look at a WAAS approach plate? I know you can find approaches on AirNav but I'm not sure what airports have WAAS.

WAAS approaches don't have their own plates... the minimums are published on the RNAV plates. See http://www.aopa.org/members/files/chart_guide/iap_intro.pdf for details... if you can work your way through the bad writing!  ??? I coughed up $$$ to have my Garmin 430 upgraded last year and love getting a GPS generated glide slope. It's much smoother than the ILS variety. Great stuff.

Thanks for the kind words. When I fly approaches, I'm right of course, left of course, up, down, you name it... I let the 30 year old autopilot fly them most of the time!!!!

I've been lurking on here a bit, but I've been busy. I've been instructing a fair amount after the day job, and it's kept me running a bit more than I'd like. Flew to Oshkosh yesterday and can now officially say.... I'm working on a biography of Steve Wittman! I'll be heading to Oshkosh a fair amount in the months ahead to comb through EAA's archives, the county historical society archives, etc. This is going to be waaaaaay coool!
