Another update on our situation
« on: January 30, 2008, 07:15:46 PM »
Since I now got two pm's telling me several people are thinking of my mom and I then I'm posting this thread.

My mom has now been in the hospital for over a week (she was admitted in the late morning on last wednesday while on hospital grounds to check if there are any aids she can use to read etc.). She's feeling better but she lost braincells and further had brain damage this time (she had a ct-scan, and with epeleptic seizures there's always irreperable braincell loss, and my mom's seizures lasted hours). Part of the reason she's still in the hospital was since they wished to take some tests to see if the medicin was working right and what damage had been done, and for the first time my mom was not urging to come home no matter what, but she also said that she wouldn't be quite the same now due to this incident and she'd generally need regular nursing care which I simply can't do.

I've been able to handle things here just fine, doing the groceries, getting some food, paying the bills etc. but it's been hell to know my mom has now gone one step worse :(

She should be home this week some time since most tests have now been done but what will happend after that is beyong my knowledge, except that she needs to talk to the home nursing department to see what help she need at home.

Still trying to save money up for a practice flight lesson although I still haven't asked if I can at all fit in the plane and have it within MTOW (that's the term right? Maximum Take Off Weight?). I haven't done any morning walks for over a week, however daily visits to my mom and some shopping and such have given me some daily walks instead.

Sorry to hear about your mom man.  Hang in there, things will get better.

As far as the plane thing,

1) try to find a cessna, if i remember correctly, they have a higher useful load.  Also you can drain the tanks to tabs to give you some extra weight allow. The only problem with this is that it usually moved your CG.  But usually you can compensate by throwing a flight bag or a sand bag or something in the baggage compartment, so no biggie.

2) the trick i had to use, was find a skinny girl for a CFI.  They weigh less so you can weigh more.  I think I was sitting around 260-270 when I did my PPL and using the tabs, as well as the female CFI worked out well.  I had issues when it came time for check rides though as all the check pilots were males and big guys.  We had to fudge the numbers a bit those days....

Good luck, hang in there.

Go for a C172 or a piper for your first flights.   I wouldn't try a 152, those are tight for even small folks.  Even if you can fit in one (you probobly can actually fit) a 172 would be much more comfortable.

Since people are giving advice...here are my 2 cents:

Don't forget about your dream and hang on to it, but

take care of your mom for now!!

You only have one mom and it seems she needs you. Those 152's or 172's or whatever will always be there.
And don't let yourself go so you can get your max gross down and help your mom......

I'd toss my 7000 flight hours back in a heartbeat if I could trade them for more time with my mom.......

About the plane then the lesson with the Grob was 3x as long for less place than the two places with a Cessna, which had 70s 172-models (150hp).

About my mom, thanks for all the greetings I've passed them on. However my mom has taken a turn for the worse and is still in the hospital and that's just the start. There've been some weird things going on and I don't know who to believe anymore, my mother who says one thing, the nurses and doctor who says something else or my brother who says something third about what the BEEP is going on. I am really not feeling well because I can see my life falling apart as my mom gets more sick than ever, and faster than ever. I don't mind, in fact I probably need to talk some more but that shouldn't be in the forum but rather in a private chat or via pm/email.

I'm carrying on to keep my sanity because I know that I can't find any other solution for this weird and horrible situation but that still doesn't help since our mom did not feel good when we had to leave after having been there a while after having to drive home again to find out some more and then back to the hospital.

Thank you all for the greetings, however what's going on does not seem to be something that will get much better, so my mom will most likely need more care when she gets home than before, and that means she need to get county assistence since it's beyond what me and/or my brother can do :(
When my brother and I visited this evening she was even worse than yesterday, despite it seeming like her medicin is being handled correctly, with an increased dosis to help against further seizures, but sadly several other bad things has happend to her while being there so she probably won't be home until next week at the earliest.

Well, I am not going to say things like it is going to get better, she will recover quickly, no worries...

We all know she wont recover quickly, if ever at all, and we all know there just cant be no worries when you love her (and we all know you do)

I just want to tell, that no matter what happens, the Coop will be always there for you Frank, and in case the "worst" happened, just remember, that she would be gone of her earthly sorrow, and she would be in a better place of eternal happiness.

Things can sure be difficult sometimes, but I'm very glad that you can be with your Mom, Frank.  Very often we get far away from people we care for, and it's hard to scramble back to help.  She's surely thankful for your time and help there.  That's wonderful.   |:)\

Well, we've now gotten some news. It seems there's a full body infection, and there's something wrong again with my mom's stomach (a couple of years ago she had her intestines bunched together, not sure what it's called, maybe that's it), she getting a scan tomorrow for it. Sadly it also seems she's gotten pnemonia know (I think that's the word, a lung infection) and she's maxed out on pain killers but sadly it's not quite enough, but they dare not give her anymore. And as if that's not enough then one a x-ray, one of several different scans etc. done in the now 2 weeks she's been in, showed she has 2, what in danish is known as discopolaps. I think it's a part of the spine that's dislodged or something like that, and she has two of those, and it's making her back tilt sideways, and then of course giving her a lot of pain. Still no idea when she's comming home but a lady from the county is comming over to her in the hospital tomorrow to talk about what they can help her with.

Thanks for the thoughts and good wishes.

Well, when I was out at my mom at around 3 pm then she'd just had a small heart-attack although one that the nitro spray could cure, and the nice old lady in the bed next to my mom had woken her up as she thought something was wrong, which there was, it's a nice old lady who's also lived in USA and one of her children lives in LA with her husband and they were actually over here a few days ago and also talked to us, very nice people indeed.

My mom's stomach is a little better, it was the same problem as I described above that had happend again and some help had been given. The pnemonia had gotten under better control so my mom is slightly better but there's still a long road to go it seems. She thanks for the greetings and thoughts.

It's nice of you to keep us posted on your Mom, Frank.  I'm glad she is feeling a little better!   :)

I'm glad she has such a sweet "roomie" nearby.  I hope she knows lots and lots of people are thinking of her.   :D
