Practice Flight in Denmark
« on: December 04, 2007, 06:33:15 AM »
Ok, I'm trying to find a place to get a practice hour to make sure I can still handle flying, it seems to cost just under 1500 DKK which seems fine, it's only a few computergames or the price of a flightsim yoke controller which wouldn't help any flight training anyway.

I've found two places with fixed wing planes, both places with a Cessna 172, there was another place too but they used a Grob G115 which seemed very tiny.

Then I found the holy grail (or the path to the dark side as some would say ;)) a practice flight with a slingwing! A it was less than twice the price price too! Sounded too good to be true, and it was since to the right it said the person couldn't weigh more than 106 kg .
I think it was because they probably use their small 2-seat Robinson. I wonder if I could pay more and get to fly the bigger one they showed, looked like a Colibri (I asume that's a nice capable helicopter).

One of the places with the 172 flight was out of Karup in central Juttland which is to my knowledge also one of the RDAF airbases. There is the full package, introduction, basic aerodynamics, take-off, climbs, turns and landing and then debriefing afterwards.

Frank

P.S. As I was outside our home neraly done with my morning walk I looked right since I thought I heard a small single prop plane in the distance and I suddently saw a fast little white line for a splitsecond on the sky, it could only have been a shooting star! That's the first time I've ever seen it, wild!

Very cool about the shooting star -- they are so pretty!  Neat!

I think next week will be the peak of the Geminid meteor shower, and the moon will be dark as well, which should make for good viewing.   :D

Wouldn't you want to do this flight in an airplane, since that is what you're looking at getting your ratings in?  Don't get me wrong -- I'd love the helicopter too, but moneywise, I'd think you'd get more of what you're looking for right now, in the Cessna.  Just a thought (nosy me).

Gotta agree with you there Mom---however, helicopters are the most fun you can have with your clothes ON anyways..

Frank--I flew out of Vaerlouse, (probably speeled it wrong), airport many many years ago, I think it is Navy though. I seem to remember the sidewalks of Copenhagen too.. ::whistle:: ::whistle:: ::whistle::

Didn't I tell you my initial flight story??  I'd never even SEEN an airplane...  got a ride in a Bell 47...  went utterly and hopelessly GA-GA...  walked into an FBO (a mostly-helicopter place) and announced "I want to learn how to fly a helicopter!"

This, when I was making just over $2.00/hour.  AHEM!   ::loony::

When they ALL got up off the floor (they all fell down, they were laughing so hard), the nice lady told me what a helicopter would cost, and then pointed out the window at a little 150 on the ramp, and said, in a kindly voice reserved for the truly mentally unstable: "Most people start in something like THAT."

And, that was the beginning of the end.   ::bow::

(I am still going to get the rating, STILL, I may be 82, I don't care...  so far have managed a whopping 10 hours.....  pun intended....)  whop, whop, whop...

Frank, how much is 1500 DKK? Around here, Greece, an hour with a 172 costs about........ 172 euros
Come to think of it, an hour on a 150 goes about 150 euros.. Hey, I'm beginning to see a pattern here  ::rofl::

As for me, I'm getting my rides on Ultralights, what the folks in the US would call sports aircraft (I think). Quite cost effective too, if your immediate goal is not a license but just to, uh, rekindle the spark..

Personally I'd rather fly an hour in our Tecnam, doing a lot of turns, climbs, stalls, approaches and stuff in our little strip than going just for a circle on a Cessna for the same money..

Just saying, check this out too, there are several little airplanes that might be able to take you up.

That's my .02$

Ikaros in Roskilde, a big place that also give commercial instruction etc. take 1375 DKK for about 1 hour including about 25 minutes in the air for a practice/intro lesson in a 172 (they take 2000 for a lesson in their Decathlon aerobatics trainer but that's besides the point here and now). 1375 DKK according to xe.com today is 184 euro. The local flying club (who I'm sure have practice lessons) take 600 DKK/tacho hour for the 172N itself, not counting pilot, training, fees etc. 600DKK is 80 Euro.

As long as it may seem to be good idea to try to look into ULLs, I am afraid that there would be jsut about the same restrictions as with helicopters... So you will have to look some REALLY thin pilot out there... :)

Besides, I am not sure of Denmark, but in Slovakia ULL can not be used for commercial purposes. There is a workaround, registering them as normal plane, but it takes much of money saved, and the plane is still only two-seater so it is uneconomical choice for sightseeing flights.

The workaround amongst friends and sometimes local airclubs is this: You don't pay for the flight, you pay the cost of the flight. So, no money is made by the pilot/club, so it's not for commercial purposes, so it's legal. What the pilot does get is free hours to his logbook and their happy with that :)

Frank, one way or the other, FLY! As PiperGirl said, give yourself a Christmas present

Hmm, I just found a third place, costs less than any of the others the whole lesson takes 3 hours, and they got newer Grob G115s, the practice lesson will be in either a 115hp A or 160hp C-model.

GEE WHIZ FRANK,
Rather than researching this thing to death---pick a place and go do it--you can try different flight schools if you don't like the first one. |:)\

Well, the thing is that both Karup and Roskilde is a long drive from here, and Roskilde is over the Great Belt tollbridge which is an additional 100 USD over the lesson and the fuel for the car but since I can't afford it this year, and I got only a single-digit amount of living familyfreinds/relatives that are still in touch with us and none are right then the closest thing I can hope for as a present is a cheap small aircraft model from Toys'r'Us. But with no more expensive things to buy after my computerupgrade then I can probably save the money up fast, I just wanted some opinions on the aircrafts available, I'm still going strong, cut down on my daily food again, and still walking my morning trips.

But thanks for the support Jim, I appreciate it, like Mike said, I shouldn't get held up by bad excuses |:)\

Frank

P.S. Is it just me or did I see you online here at times that would be in the middle of the night in California?
