Wow, when I first read the topic title I thought it was the minivan that had an accident. Strange, the first photo looks potentially fake but that might be due to sunlight hitting the smoke and such. I can see it's the same ID on the closeups which clearly look authentic.

When you say safe landing then I hope that means no serious injuries, if any, right? Doing a go-around with just one engine sounds scary and very dangerous, had it done a touchdown so it had to go full-throttle and rudder or was it still at some speed?

It hadn't touched down, Frank...  I got these from a senior United check airman, and he didn't forward much additional info.  Except for some sarcastic comments about how pilots are treated, even after they do everything flawlessly, and, yes, no injuries happen.  I left out the comments!  Figured the pictures say plenty.....

The first picture IS a fake Frank!

Anyway, the accident has happened all right, so it's more like an artistic rendering as I might say (artistic with such lame photoshoping? Oh well  ::rofl::)

This bird certainly shelled an engine, but the first photo is fake.  Nick just showed everyone how easy it is.  You look up the N registration number on Airliners.net, find a pic suitable for photoshop and go to work on it.  Then you send it out to all your unsuspecting buddies who buy it lock, stock, and barrel!

The trouble is that there are plenty of us who take a critical look at a photo like this and then measure it with our shock-proof bullshit detectors.  An engine fire of that magnitude would have burned the engine off the airframe before they ever got that close to landing.  Most engine fires are quickly extinguished by hitting the fuel cutoff valves and blowing the fire bottles.

Remember what they say, S-Mom;  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me!   ::sulk::

Well, jeez, sorry everybody.  I guess my "shock-proof bullshit detectors" must be worn out, after all, they must have 30 million hours TT by now, after 30 years in aviation.....  I'll be sure to tell the check airman at United......  after all, his must have 60 million hours TT.

While I did think that the first picture looked somewhat "off" then I thought that it was probably ok since Mary posted it. That last line is really great btw 8)

Don't get me wrong, I find photoshoping much fun! It's the usual hype that's getting on my nerves, and thankfully we don't get much around here  ::bow::

Imagine my reaction when I saw this little image of our two birds on my mail! It scared the hell out of me in the couple of seconds it took me to see it for what it is  8)

Now, if that picture was posted somewhere with the hype "Greek pilots couldn't care less about safety, stupid crash just averted" then I'd be pissed  ::rofl::

Ha ha, good one....  though I do know a guy who DID have HUGE flames coming out of his left engine, and he DID get it on the ground and he DID get out okay...  in a Twin Beech, nonetheless.

His hair is also snow white.   ;)

[And No, I would never have believed it was possible, except the airport guys had pictures, because THEY knew they were going to see a great fireball...   ;)  ]
