The hunter who heard the "crash" noise is on TV now -- saying he saw the airplane "flying low" up a canyon, making "noises", then heard a louder noise "like it crashed".

Looks like a massive search effort is underway.  This doesn't sound too promising but maybe luck will prevail and they will be found okay.   |:)\

Yikes..  the next channel's news says the plane has been found, but they aren't saying anything yet about the persons on board.
Let's hope they are alright.

I'm flipping through channels, but, not having that many, can't find any updates yet...  yes, this is a bad day for everyone, waiting...

The airport they flew out of near here, Star, has a nice paved strip, and is a pretty busy and well-known spot for jumping.  We used to use it for our spring refresher training, but a certain gov't agency kind of ruined it all when they acted like dingbats (and worse) to the skydive club that owns it.   :'(  That was pretty much the end of us being allowed to use it.  Which is really too bad.    >:(

Fox News is reporting this morning that all 10 aboard died.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, people.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,300128,00.html

Quote
YAKIMA, Wash. —  Seven bodies were recovered from the wreckage of a plane that crashed in the Cascade Mountains, and authorities said the other three people aboard were also believed dead.

Searchers who found the wreckage Monday night were able to verify by serial number that it was the plane carrying nine skydivers and a pilot that went missing a day earlier, said Tina Wilson, a Yakima Valley Emergency Management spokeswoman.

The names of those aboard were not released. Jim Hall, director of Yakima Valley Emergency Management, said none appeared to have survived, and that their families were notified.

Seven people on board "have been found deceased," Yakima County Sheriff Ken Irwin said in a statement. Recovery efforts were suspended for the night but were to resume Tuesday.

The Cessna 208 Grand Caravan left Star, Idaho, near Boise, Sunday evening en route to Shelton, Washington, northwest of Olympia. The plane was returning from a skydiving meet.

Members of the Tacoma Mountain Rescue Team following the smell of fuel found the wreckage in the rugged mountains, Wilson said. The tail section was separated from the rest of the plane and was not immediately located, she said.

The National Transportation Safety Board was to begin an investigation Tuesday.

One man at a Red Cross center at White Pass said his 30-year-old son was aboard the plane. He displayed a family photo of the young man skydiving with a brother and sister.

"He worked hard and he played hard — we just want to find him," said the father, who did not give his name.

Elaine Harvey, co-owner of the skydiving company Skydive Snohomish, told The Seattle Times that nine of the 10 aboard were either employees of her business or else licensed skydivers who considered Snohomish their "home drop zone."

Skydive Snohomish operates a training school and offers skydiving flights. The company had nothing to do with the flight to Idaho or the event held there, Harvey said.

What a bummer :(
My thoughts and prayers are directed to their friends and relatives.

Good time (just like every time after an accident) to rethink our own skill levels and attitude.

No matter how many uneventful flights are in our logbook we must never become complacent...........................

What is chilling is that Skydive Snohomish posted a help wanted ad on Oct 1 for a part time C208 driver on a website.  I do not know if that has any bearing on this accident.

It is a sad day...  such a sad outcome for all the families and friends.  I had to go by the jump base today, and saw one of the older guys who also skydives, he spent the weekend at the boogie and said they had one helluva fun weekend.  Such a tough conclusion....

My condolences to their loved ones....    |:)\

The plane was based in Washington state, but they had flown over here to Idaho for the weekend "boogie".  They departed the local skydiving strip in Star, Idaho, and were headed home when they crashed.   :'(

I thought it was kinda weird that a jump plane went missing.  Hell, they usually take of, climb to 10K, kick out the jumpers and descend straight back down to the runway, right?  (Excepting those with smokejumpers, of course.  No offense to the fire crews.)
God looks out for drunks and dumb animals.  Fortunately, I qualify on both counts.

Gee, if we ever flew that high, we wouldn't recognize the planet anymore.   :D

This was sure a sad deal, all the way around...  mostly real young folks onboard.   :'(
