What do you fly now, Baradium?

Sorry Mike,  I've been running all over and the forum has been quiet so I stopped checking very often at all.   I sent you an email,  but I'm flying 737s now.

2013 the 777X was intruded at the Dubai Airshow and Boeing expected it to enter service by 2020

2020 Congress passed a law imposing new safety standards for cockpit alerts for aircraft certified after December 2022.

June 2021, The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) sent a letter to Boeing saying that the manufacturer’s new 777X known as the 777-9 aircraft, currently in its testing phase, likely will not receive its certification until mid- to late-2023. The FAA has blocked Boeing from moving forward with a key step in its certification of the aircraft, pushing the projected date on which the FAA will give the aircraft the all-clear back by months.

The FAA is continuing to study the aircraft's Common Core System, described as the "central nervous system of the plane" that the FAA believes is not up to par. The FAA reports that the system has incomplete data and has not cleared preliminary safety checks. The system apparently was not adequately peer-reviewed, resulting in “inconsistencies and incorrect reuse of 787 data.”

<Sigh>

Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines are returning to service
FAA clears United to return 52 777's to service

Emirates to revamp the interior cabins of 120 Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft. The multibillion-dollar project will begin in November and will be managed entirely by Emirates Engineering, which aims to totally refurbish four aircraft each month over the next two years. On completion in April 2025, almost 4,000 new premium economy seats will be installed, 728 first-class suites refurbished and over 5,000 business-class seats upgraded to a new style and design.

Now we are waiting on the FAA to certify the 777X

777 is a great airplane, but the A350 can do everything a 777ER can do and most things a 777LR can do and burn half the fuel per seat mile while doing it.  I wish they would have stayed around, at least the LRs, but that wasn't to be.

General Discussion / Volunteering, no longer a misplaced mechanic
« Last post by Oddball on July 07, 2021, 01:30:40 PM »
I've just had the opportunity to become a volunteer at a not so local aviation museum on the site of the former R.A.F Montrose on the east coast here in Scotland.  Went up yesterday and helped out to arrange two new displays.  It's only a small museum but as you go through the estate you are surrounded by the original buildings from 1913.  They have two replica aircraft they built themselves (BE2C and a Sopwith Camel) along with a DH Vampire Trainer and a Gloster Meteor T7. they are currently restoring a Miles Hawk (which turned into the Magister in R.A.F service with additions), a Avro Anson in long term restoration and other pieces in their collection related to the R.A.F and to Montrose.  Recently they have been gifted a cut away Hawker Hunter and looking to get Panavia Tornado for their collection.  And yes they have a Spitfire, a Mark Vb, but it's a fibreglass replica :(

Here's the link to their site:
