Guess this won't be graded as a "great" landing! :-\

What an expensive "OOPS" . . .
Or did the gear malfunction??
Almost looks like they could get right back into taking off and flying again as soon as they got the thing back on it's wheels, doesn't it?!?! Speaks for the plane !!

The Russian Mig-29 is designed for exactly that. The Russians have done demonstrations as well. Intentionally gear up the plane, lift it on the wheels and then fly it around demonstrating that everything still functions normally.

I'm trying to remember who the quote is from, but here it is:
"There are two kinds of pilots in this world....those that have made a wheels up landing and those who will."
Myself...I LIKE my gear down and welded ;D

Seeing as how even some light twins have automatic warning and even lowing mechanisms I'm going hope that this was either a gear malfunction, or part of the flight testing program. :P

After 11 hours in the seat, I suppose the likelihood of this sort if incident is a lot higher! :-\

For the speeds that those guys fly, there seemed to be relatively little damage on the underside of the aircraft. Hopefully it was a gear malfunction, at least for the pilots sake. That would be tough to explain to the commander.

:'( :'( :'(
Those are my absolute favorite planes, the most beautiful thing to take to the sky in my opinion. Probably what made my want to get into aviation, what else can you do mach 2, 200 feet off the ground with both pilots kicked back drinking coffee, with the computer flying it, while you sit on top of 10 thermonucler warheads? Deadly and beautiful all in one.
Sad to see one on its belly, i saw on up close about 6 months ago, a buddy of mine is at the Air Force academy in colorado springs, they had one land and i got a sneak peak :)

The best is when your driving in bfe nevada and one buzzes you about 200 or so off the deck. Never hear them coming.
