Title: Flying and Fireworks
Post by: Callisto on July 05, 2006, 06:10:35 PM
Ok so I've always wondered... How cool is it to look down on fireworks???
Who has done this?
What is the flight rules governing this (if any different from "standard" rules)?
I've seen GA Craft fly over different Forth of July celibrations and always thought, "That's gotta be cool!"

It's pretty cool, different angle and all.
Generally, fireworks are easy to stay above, and at least I've never heard of a light aircraft being
hit by 'em.
Of course, there's always FlightSim. If you're flying over Vegas at the New Year, you'll see MSFireworks as you fly over (not quite the same as the real thing, though)

MSFireworks you say? I've been a life long fan of MSFS, why didn't I know this?

I'll have to check that out! Thanks!

New Years midnight? Over the strip?

It's ok.  Personally, I'd rather be up close so I can hear them, too.  I was actually up last night, and saw many amature displays in Fargo.  Pretty, but not as fun as being on the ground.

One of the last flights with my Dad was in a Mooney on July 4th 1976 over Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay where they set off the fireworks for the whole city to watch.    It was not very impressive because of the airborne perspective and their were a ton of other idiot pilots out there and all of us flying wierd orbits trying not to run into each other----turned out that fireworks are best seen and appreciated from the ground! :-\

Fireworks and beer seem to mix very well.... ;)
(that's been my experience)

Although, have you guys ever seen the video of those stupid drunk kids where one decides to launch a rocket out of his a$$ and gets severly burned?
HA HA
I guess you have to use beer AND fireworks in moderation!!  :D

Gosh, when you hear things alike, you can actually think that stupidity isn't limited by anything  :( :(. A lot of folk is used to think that fireworks are games and minimize the danger they usually bring...

Well I would HOPE that one would fly a little higher than the fireworks... but as stated above... some people aren't very smart  ;D

Yes, he did say that. It's one of my most favorite quotes (next to the one on my signature)

Unfortunately I am reminded of it often, especially while driving here in Vegas or LA . . . .    ;D
