Now you can sit on the toilet in Embraer's Phenom 100 executive jet while the plane is taking off and landing, the Brazilian plane maker announced Tuesday.
Brazilian and European regulators approved the new belted toilet seat, allowing the jet to accommodate up to seven people, Embraer said. It said it expects U.S. Federal Aviation Administration approval "in the coming weeks."
"This much-awaited product improvement comes to enhance the Phenom 100's seating capacity, and is a result of listening to our customers," Maurício Almeida, Embraer vice president, Programs – Executive Jets, said in a news release. "Embraer is committed to offering unique, customer-centered solutions, and continues to work hard to further improve this successful and highly popular airplane."
In order to be certified for takeoff and landing, the seat needed such modifications as a belt and reinforcements to the aft bulkhead divider, along with testing to ensure it could protect a passenger in an impact of up to 21 times the force of gravity.
But this doesn't mean you can go while you go, so to speak. The takeoff and landing configuration has the seat's lid down.
I'm thinking the person who gets the toilet seat isn't going to be the highest-ranking executive on board.
Existing Phenom 100 owners will be able to retrofit their jets with the new seat later this year, Embraer said.

In heavy turbulance, that seatbelt could be handy when trying to "go". ::sick:: ::unbelieveable::
