Title: Chickens at Airventure Oshkosh
Post by: Turbomallard on May 27, 2006, 10:25:22 PM
Anyone here going to Oshkosh? It would be great if Chicken Wings got booth there, but I'm guessing that it's too far for the guys to travel at this point, right? Someday, though!

That aside, there will probably be a few of our coop that will make the trip. Want to meet up for lunch or dinner some time and get some........... chicken? There's a couple of chicken places on the convention site, or we could go into town. Fox River Brewing is exceluuunt... and they have great beer. I don't remember offhand if they have chicken wings, though.  :D I'll check into the matter (I usually make it up there a few times a year for various projects).

Just remember... no duck dishes, please.  :o

I would LOVE to go to Oshkosh. We can't make it there this year but we are looking for somebody who can represent us. Alabama Aviator Magazine said they might be able to work something out. But I don't know....we haven't heard anything lately.
Let me know if you guys know anybody over there. We are willing to offer a killer deal because we are just interested in presence and not profit on this particular show....

Doesn't Trade a Plane run your strip? They usually have a good presence in one of the exhibit hangars, selling issues, giving out free stuff, etc. Might they be willing to sell your book, at least?

And I can see something like this coming:

1. Mike posts to the board saying that readers who go to the booth selling their stuff for them (let's say Trade a Plane for the sake of our story here) and makes loud chicken noises while flapping their arms will get a free shirt or book.

2. Mike then of course says NOTHING to the TAP people.

3. Readers come by the TAP booth in flocks, making loud chicken noises and flapping their arms.

4. TAP personnel are really confused.

5. When Mike calls asking how things went, TAP personnel report it was the STRANGEST show they've ever attended, with all kinds of idiots coming by the booth making loud chicken noises and flapping their arms...

Hey... I'd do something like that given the chance...  ;D

Who knows, I might get this summer off, in which case I might go to Oshkosh and make a show of flapping my arms and clucking at the T-A-P booth!     ;D ;D ;D
And after someone posts my bail at the local funny farm (Mike, send me your cell phone number) I'll try to get some press coverage out of it for Chuck and crew!

I'd go and try, but if I got to oshkosh I'd probably look like a chicken with his head cut off anyway.  Just because I was at Oshkosh and trying to see as much as I could.

I go every year for the last 5 years. I am a Volunteer for the VAA (Vintage Aircraft Association).  I would love to see you guys set up a booth around there. Or get in contact with the VAA Red Barn. I am sure they would help you out. I have found the old guys have the greatest sense of humor.  For those that don’t know Vintage is considered 1967 and older… Hopefully I will be there this year…. Unless I get a real job with an airline and get a class date during convention….. That would suck….

I urge anyone who goes regularly to volunteer. At the end of the day you don’t only feel like you went to another great convention but helped make it great.

Can you give us some numbers and contacts maybe?

We tried the TAP thing but they aren't allowed to do anything but TAP there especially not sell somebody elses books. Some sort of policy to not play favors. I can't remember the whole reasoning behind it.
Like I said, we are willing to give the books away really cheap so whoever sells them can make way more than 100% mark-up depending on what they price it at for themselves at the show....

Okay, here's a plan...

They have author's corner events for signings, etc., at one of the EAA stores on the site... I want to say the Sky Shoppe but I'm not sure. Anyway... set up a signing, and I'll go saying I'm Mike or Stef, signing books in their name(s)... and presto!

P.S. This offer is conditional on the accompanyment of Promo-Chick  ;D

I am Kind of disappointed. I couldn’t find any specific contact information online. I am still digging though. You may just want to email or call the general information line at vintageaircraft@eaa.org  or 920-426-4825. Let me know what you come up with. If I find out I am defiantly going then I am more than willing to help you guys out. |:)\

Title: GOOD NEWS!
Post by: Mike on June 25, 2006, 04:51:54 AM
Hi Guys!

We will be represented at Oshkosh after all. I thank all you guys for your support.   |:)\

Turns out we will be represented by the EAA directly. They love our book and
agreed to sell it in the big EAA tent smack dead in the middle of the event!
We won't be there peronally but for sure next year.
But please stop by at the "Authors corner" to rave about us and make a big deal if you
are in the area!  |:)\

Also, all the copies are signed btw. In case you guys don't have one of them yet...
Here is the (big) box that went to the EAA:

HA HA!!
Exactly!  :D  :D

If Carol from TAP writes me after the show saying "so-and-so came by the booth and did this weird chicken dance",
he or she gets a free book!

And here I was about to order one!

I'll be there all week... who else is going? We should get together for some... chicken  ;D

Gawd I'll be glad to get this week over with. My student came out of the woodwork a couple of weeks ago wanting to finish up his private THIS week, as he's on vacation. Needed a lot of ground review, some flying as well. I've been working with him almost every night after my real job. Then I get a call for a job interview at the end of the week... am flying my Arrow to that Thursday morning and should get home Friday night wx permitting. And I'm going to SLEEP Saturday...

Anyway, can't wait for Oshkosh. Hope to see some of you there...

Absolutely we should meet up for some chicken. I'll shoot you an email off line as the magic time gets closer and we can make arrangements.

I'm interviewing with MSU Mankato for a faculty position in their library. Good thing about the job is it's only 9 months a year (I currently work 12). The bad thing is... you don't get paid for the three months you're off, and I don't think I can afford that (unless I sell my Arrow... which ain't going to happen!!!!). I'm going to ask at the university's flight school if they hire part time CFIs that aren't a product of their own program... I expect them to say no. But you never know. Sometimes they're more intersted in having a more perminant older person to rely on with more single engine time and dual given than a young whipper-snapper who is instructing to build time before they leave for their next job on the climb up the ladder. We'll see.

Hey, good luck, Turbo.  It'll be nice having another forum member in God's country.   ;)

I looked into working for Mankato, but they wanted MEI's only.

Several times when I was younger! But forget I said it! the music you hear together with the "movie posted" was a popular children song! Who could have known that I had to dance it again?!? :) :)

@ Turbo: Any news? I did not notice what you said about the work before, so good luck, mate!  |:)\

Thanks... it was a faculty position that turned out is a fixed two year contract... not worth losing tenure where I am now, though I do need to move on. The flight school at the university subcontracts out their flight operations and is in the process of selling the business to the other FBO... they weren't sure if they would want any part time instructors (my guess is they are like most schools and only hire their own graduates).

Just re-read that and should probably have stated more clearly that the position I interviewed for had nothing to do with the flight school or aviation... instructing is a fun part time gig that simply allows me to fly on somebody else's dime and, when I have a good student, gives me tremendous satisfaction by sharing this incredible experience called flight.

Thanks for asking!

I'm REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAALY getting psyched for Airventure!!!!!

Ducks don't do chicken dances. Any more than I was going to sing the Sonex version of "Hotel California" at the Sonex party at Oshkosh two years ago (lesson: NEVER post parody lyrics to an internet forum shortly before a party featuring people from said forum, lest you be coerced into singing them with the band).

Okay, folks (or is that chickens...) who all is going to be there?

C310RCaptian and I have exchanged phone numbers and hope to meet up for some chicken at some point... and perhaps dance at the TAP booth. (Note: I intend to bring a printout of Mike at Steph's messages as evidence we were put up to doing strange things in case they deny knowing anything about it with the TAP people.)
