Title: Coast Guard Helicopter Crashes in Uinta Range
Post by: TheSoccerMom on March 04, 2010, 07:07:46 PM
A Coast Guard helicopter returning to the east coast from the Olympics in Vancouver crashed in high country in Utah.

Pretty amazing..  all aboard survived the crash...  thank their lucky stars!

I wonder why they chose to fly into the highest country around, though...?   MEFs there range from 12,600 to 13,900 MSL....   ::thinking::

It's a JayHawk thing. One have to be in a really bad situation to not survive a crash in a S-70, those were designed to standards, that are just now entering civilian aviation. The Hawk is Chuck-certified ;)

If it really was a CFIT, then that's the real question, second - how much flight time, does USCG crews get flying in mountainous terrain ?
