Title: Pilots n Paws
Post by: spacer on June 18, 2009, 03:18:20 PM
As I get closer to my private ticket (33.7 hours now, with only my night CC and pre-checkride prep for requirements), I was looking around for ways to make my flying useful for more than hideously expensive pancakes. Charity flights, when hauling humans, have some experience and licensing requirements that I won't be able to meet for some time yet, so now there are two outfits I may be able to join. One, of course, is the Civil Air Patrol. The other is an animal rescue transport group called Pilots n Paws. http://pilotsnpaws.org/ As a large number of rescues come from this part of the country, I oughta be able to pick up quite a lot of cross country experience while helping rescued pups make their way to new homes. Also, I can claim the direct expenses as tax deductible. It won't take a very big part of the flying costs away, but every little bit does help.
Also, I have a soft spot for furry folk. Lucy and Twizzler were both rescues, Twizzler was slated to go to the "bad room" the same week we adopted him.
