Post by: TheSoccerMom on April 29, 2009, 09:12:16 PM
AOPA just had this story as a link....  apparently two guys went skiing, and so landed atop a nice spot in Alaska...  but what the pilot thought would be soft snow was a hard crust.........

They slid to the.....

EDGE.....

omg! That was close.

Never flown on ski nor in mountains but if you look at the path of the airplane, he seems to have tried to turn at the last minute. So he knew there was a drop comming. Wouldn't it be easier to just apply full power and use the drop to recover from stall if not flying when airborne. Maybe I watched too many movies.

Ouch, I'd like to see how they get the plane off the side of the cliff.

Mike's new Huey could do it...

Very perceptive Brian.  They slung it out with a Huey.  They reported that the difficult part was crawling around the plane to rig the harness.   ::eek::  ::loony::

Pics?  No need: strictly routine.

No, none that I've seen so far.  But that's what the Anchorage Paper reported.  Slinging a damaged plane home under a heli is pretty routine in Alaska.

must've been fun getting out... exit is on the downill side... although I think I'd have been squeezing through the sliding left side window...  still...

I'd just as soon not have that story to tell....

Haha,  see what happens when I get on the computer at 4am?

I saw a skiplane and just thought "supercub" and didn't even pay attention.

Speaking of which, these highspeeds are catching up to me, been hard to keep up on sleep this week.  On that note, time for a few hours...
