Title: New book! ...FINALLY!
Post by: Stef on March 03, 2009, 05:20:09 PM
Yay!! Hooray!! We finally made it!!

It took us a little while this time, huh? Well, for the record, I just wanted to give a short account of why we kept you waiting for so long. I actually was quite close to finishing this book last spring, but then I spontaneously moved to a new apartment and totally got out of the layouting and editing process. By the time I got my new office set up and found enough time again, summer was almost here. But since we couldn't release it right IN summer, because Mike was all over the place and wouldn't have been able to handle the orders, we decided to launch it in fall, just in time for Christmas. So we put in some more material and completed the layout in about September.

It was a tight schedule, but if everything worked out fine with printing and shipping, we would make it! Well, guess... everything didn't work out fine. Setting up the print job took longer than expected and when we started sending sample prints back and forth with our printer, we decided that there was no point in rushing now, just to release it a week before Christmas and compromise on the quality. So we decided to release it after Christmas! But since my brother came here to Austria for vacation, we had to time the delivery so that it would arrive when he was back in the States again.

So, now you got a glimpse of the hardships of a cartoonist! Well, a self-published cartoonist, that is... (Oh, and I didn't even mention the hauling of over a ton of books up into my apartment!)

And since in this whole process we couldn't really foresee when exactly we would have the books, we didn't want to make a preorder phase this time and then keep you waiting, or something like that. In turn we have decided to give you all a discount in the first month!

Anyway, we're very happy with the final result! The printing and binding quality of the book is just awesome, we feel we get better at delivering the punchlines and drawing, and, last but not least, the book has almost twice the content for only a very slight increase in price compared to the last one.

Well, the orders already keep pouring in! As soon as you guys have read the book, we'd be very interested in your thoughts!!  |:)\

Great news, and man did it come at a good time!

I'm about to order but unsure what type of shipment to select. There's the free shipping, but then there's the zone shipping to DK, what does it mean/which one to chose? I'm ordering the new book and Captain Ed's book.

Frank

P.S. Any chance of of a Chuck scetch on this book as well?

Sure, Frank! I'll draw a little Chuck for you!   |:)\

Well, there's only one type of shipping, actually, and that is the one that's called "zone shipping". And although every country has a code, there's only two zones, Europe and International. And for Europe, all orders of €30 or more are shipped free of charge.

Hmm... I just noticed that, if you order the new book and Captain Ed's book, it is under €30, but it still shows the free shipping option. I guess that is because without the discount they would usually be more than 30,-... Heck, I have no idea how to change that, so if I were you, I would seize this opportunity and go ahead and order!  ;)

I am glad to see you bucking the current trend and maintaining quality!!!

No, I'm still waiting :'(

I placed the order the 3rd and a day or two later the status said: shipped. I've been watching the mailbox every day since then. My brother ordered the train sumilator Trainz 2009 from the official website and weeks became months and when it finally arrived here in Denmark then stamps on the outside made it clear that somehow it had been mis-shipped at least once to Sierra Leone.

I am trying not to go through the book in a single day.
I am really enjoying the single frames.

I really want to pull out the control tower on page 16 and post it at the SeaTac (SEA) tower in Seattle Washington (USA).

Page 29 deals with my paperwork load and it needs to be posted at my desk.

I am going to set the book aside, otherwise I will finish it today.
Kudo's to our authors. ::bow:: ::bow::

Woohoo, I got them just now (I also finally got around to ordering Captain Ed's book), it looks and feels great, and man did Stefan really outdo himself on the note/drawing on the inner cover, they get better and better just like the books themselves! |:)\  ::bow:: And now for the reading! 8)

Might as well order mine finally  ::thinking::

An autograph from the author would really be a nice touch, but I guess the book will be worth even without!

Oh, while I was at it, I ordered all three... So Stef, the package that goes to Prague is mine, just so you know :)
Title: Review of Think Big
Post by: Frank N. O. on March 14, 2009, 07:39:19 AM
Ok, I've read it now :)

First off, the format/quality is great, just like the second book, a joy to go thrue and really makes the printed drawings look good, and the paper also seems really thick so it's sure to last well! Thumbs up!  |:)\

Like with book 2 then the small extra drawings on the pages further enhances the great visual impression when reading the main strips |:)\

And the book contains more pages/jokes than ever and the price is great, also thumbs up |:)\

Overall I gave it two thumbs up!  |:)\ |:)\

A few notable jokes I especially liked (and which I hadn't seen before):
- Piper Aztec, half off ::rofl::
- Jedi Master he isn't, well maybe Julio will correct the offset balance of the plane done by Chuck's watch ::rofl::
- Duck Tales - The Sequel, poor Ray, buzzcuts don't go well with feathers!
- Page 39, really funny although I think I read the real reason was because of the need for a lot of instruments, and it had a periscope for forward vision.
- Page 64, he just can't keep his mouth shut huh?

I was wondering, are there any special guest appearences in this book? One I thought it might be is actually someone I don't know, John on page 89, simply because I haven't seen him before and there's no intro as to why he's in the CW universe or where Chuck knows him from.

One question though, page 88 is also a joke right? I don't think I'd rather go fishing if I was a commercial pilot.

Frank
P.S. There were three small tiny little errors I noticed, two lines are missing a word and a third line has the same word repeated twice. And my book had a slight ink-smear on one of the pages but it's not bad though so no biggie.

no joke, Frank!
After 8,000flight hours, over 16 years in, and 563,469.5 filled out pieces of paperwork, I am sure you would too . . .     ;) :)

THANKS FOR THE KUDOS EVERYBODY!!

I always enjoy seeing how everybody found different things more funny than others!
btw, you may have dated yourself there by "getting" the Bon Jovi reference Thunder Eagle . . . heh heh  ::rofl::
But we are HUGE Bon Jovi fans, and Peanut fans as you guys might be able to tell.....

Thunder Eagle, could I get you to write a one or two line review in our US-online shop?
(maybe even just copy and paste what you just posted in the forum?)

btw:...sitting on my boat listening to Bon Jovi as I am writing this..... weird.

Wow! You found more mistakes than myself then! Next time we'll give you the new book to proofread before we send it to the printer!  ;) Can you tell me where exactly the errors are? I try to write them down to fix them in potential future reprints.

Oddball uninteresting fact No.1:  "Baa Baa Black Sheep" wasw called "The Black Sheep Squadron" over in the UK (but I dont know about anywhere else)
was going to use the "not a sigle plane in the sky" sketch for a college project on air pollution but could not find it before the deadline, would of made a good slide at the end.

;D I found it especially funny because I've used this reference myself, while swimming.  On multiple occasions.  I think my lanemates were just as annoyed as Julio.  It must have been my singing, though, because Bon Jovi rocks.

Still thoroughly enjoying the book - I just open it at random and find plenty to chuckle about.  I'm digging the single-panes. Particularly, like everyone else, Sauron's control tower.

I'm looking forward to the new book....  it sounds GREAT!    ::bow::

 ::bow::

I just have to wait until I run off some new currency on the printing presses....    ::whistle::

All the dough around here has gone to the vet's office.....  at least their kids will all make it through college.   ::whistle::

The book sounds awesome, though, and I can't wait.   :)

Sure, I'll give it a shot, my small big-brother Michael have been visiting two of the last three days so I've fallen a bit behind on the forum and such but I'm going to catch up now.

Btw, was there a cameo/reference, besides TM, in the book?

One more thing, I was just looking thrue the book to find the pagenumber for the tiny notes Stef wanted and I suddently noticed that I'd misunderstood the joke on page 25! I thought he was after some more power, but then I noticed the wings and remember the Red Bull commercial I saw on german tv some years ago and then I got it! ::rofl:: ::rofl::
I wonder how many know the commercial and will get the joke.

Ok, I'd better get these notes posted before I forget them again.

Page 28, 1st strip, 1st frame, Chuck says "more" twice in a row.
Page 38, 1st strip, 1st frame, Julio's reply seems to be missing a "sure".

Page 41, 1st strip. It might not really be an error but when I hear someone describing something easy then they usually say "like a hot knife thrue butter" since normally cutting thrue butter isn't easy, at least not the kind of butter we got here, but as I said, it might not really be an error since sayings vary between the different cultures.

Thanks, Frank!

Yes, page 28 definitely is an error! My girlfriend noticed that one too.  :-\
Page 38... Hm, no, I think it works without the "sure".
Page 41: You're right! I would have preferred that version! But I drew the characters so big in the first panel, that I didn't have any more space left to put the text! That happens quite often, actually, and then I have to cut down the text to fit it in...  ;D

Glad to help, and glad you didn't take it the wrong way :)

About page 38 then I still think it would look more correct if Julio had said "I'm not sure if all the parts..."

ZOUNDS! and CRIPES! You're right!!!  ::eek:: I still didn't see it, even after you put it under my nose! Well, no wonder I didn't see it while proofreading then...
