Title: Aviation Art Show at Simuflite DFW
Post by: Rooster Cruiser on April 08, 2008, 07:31:58 PM
I have been attending my Citation Type rating school at Simuflite's DFW campus. During this time, Simuflite has had an Aviation Art show. All the paintings were excellent but I didn't have time to really go look at them. Yesterday I had a little time to kill before my checkride, so I started looking at all of the paintings they had. Lo and behold, I found a great painting of an air tanker in operation! ::cowboy:: I knew you guys would love this so I brought my camera with me today and I took several pics after I had finished up my schooling.
One of the office types noticed me taking the pics, and asked me which one was my favorite. I immediately told her which one and I told her that I was going to post this on the forum today. Mike and Stef, I am spreading the word about you guys! ::bow:: ::bow:: ::bow:: ::bow:: ::bow::
This one is titled Tanker 17, by Mike Kewille. What do you fire-fighter types think? Did the artist capture the essence?

I will post this other painting for all you Brits and lovers of WWII fighters on this forum. It is titled "The Struggle Begins" and it was awarded Best of Show. I am afraid I do not remember the name of the artist.

Hey, neat paintings.. thanks for sharing.
Like them both.. the fire one looks like Florida or the southeast somewhere... and I don't recall AU having a T-17... interesting! I'll have to tell those guys they're hanging up down there... ::wave::

I dunno Ian, but the painting is clearly depicting the first attack of Dover harbor by Stukas, in which the Luftwaffe bombers were slaughtered. This may not show up very well in this pic I posted since I had to decrease the size alot to make it fit on a screen. However, in the original painting you can clearly identify the inverted gull wing shape of the dive bombers over the harbor. No matter what, the chalk cliffs of Dover are unmistakable.
OK, who is a big enough history buff to let us know which Hurricane squadrons participated in the defense of Dover?

303 and 310 sqn are polish there could be more squadrons involved in the 11 group sector
