Title: Pilot Job Interviews...... Dumb Questions, Anyone???
Post by: TheSoccerMom on March 06, 2008, 10:53:59 PM
I just gotta share this one.

I ran into an old friend this week, who is a seasoned pilot and also an experienced mechanic.  He is currently working as a mechanic, and while we were visiting in the shop, the other guys were egging him to tell me about his recent JOB interview, for a pilot position.

I can't do it justice, since I don't have his hilarious sense of humor, but he burst out laughing, and proceeded to share his story.  [Note:  this was for a government job... to fly certain high officials around.]

He said he was well into the interview, surrounded by a half-dozen "managers", when he realized they hadn't asked him any questions about his experience [impressive], his abilities [many!], background [unique], or qualifications.  He waded on, thinking it would surely be coming.

The questions were focusing on potential OFFICE skills, and he said he soon realized that this was NOT going to work -- this was NOT a job he could stand -- and they were NOT going to ask one thing that had anything to DO with aviation.  That was when they asked a crucial question:

"Soo...  how are you with Powerpoint presentations?"

Knowing he was just seconds from standing up and walking out, he said with a serious face, "Well...  it is a BIG part of MY life....."  They looked a little confused, asked another office question, then realized as he stood up and waved BYE-BYE, that he was pulling their leg.

Can you believe that?!?   ::loony::

So....  who's had any strange interview questions?!??  And, are they repeatable here?!?!

After having sat through a Forest Service Power Point presentation (given by a FS pilot) just this very week,(yawn ::sleep:: ) I can see why that would be a valid question.  ::loony::
The main thing I learned there was that wearing sunglasses during the presentation is good because you can close your eyes without anyone noticing--just don't snore! ::banghead::

one thing i have learned at uni was when in class make sure you are at the back, so when you fall asleep you can rest your head against the wall instead on the table, not so noticeable that way

Shoot, I never learned how to sleep without snoring.   ::unbelieveable::  I guess I'd better not apply for an FS pilot position.   ::loony::
