Now, G-Man, wasn't there some big discussion about this some years back?  Seems like most guys assumed it was urban legend, like Mike says...?

But, since you had the links, maybe you know of some of these guys....?  So, did you hear the one about the pilot, don't know the N-# or model, but I believe he came out of Hemet, I think he was a medium, headed to an arson start...  there was an article about how he couldn't dip and finally went and shut down...  they said in the paper later, it was some crazy guy trying to do this very stunt....  man, it was a long time ago, but we tried like hell to find out more of the story at work, and it was just...  gone.  Like, Poof!  No one seemed to know anything, there were no incident reports, or any kind of post-briefings.

Anyway, just wondering if that rings any bells??  We were all curious, because they said the pilot was really ticked off, but like I said, it just went away and we never heard any more.

Are you back into the mountains yet, westbound??  Stay warm...  S'Mom**   :)

Snopes take on this:

Snopes refers to the FireDiving website and includes a link as a reference to some diver being so annoyed at being asked all the time whether it happened or not that they decided to put this site up.

I first read this particular tall tale in a crime novel that was written in the early 1990's.  Can't remember the name of the book, but it was about a serial arsonist in Seattle and the slueth who took him down.  The author used this exact tall tale as a prior case and had the slueth figure it all out with just a couple phone calls.

I'm pretty sure they did a mythbusters episode about this as well.  Found out that it was an urban legend, and its basically impossible.

Also, if i remember right, there was  CSI episode about it as well.  Killed the guy, dressed him up in scuba stuff, put him under a tree, heat from a forest fire blew up the tank and propelled him into the tree.
