Perfectly safe airplane

You hear this line a lot from pilots. And I don’t mean “I’m a pilot”, but “Why jump out of a perfectly safe plane?”. Apparently, as I was already musing a couple of days ago, it seems that to pilots, jumping out of a functioning plane is about as desirable as jumping out of a driving car would be to everybody else.

Chuck sure looks like he’s looking forward to it though!

When I was jumping out of aircraft in my younger days, the correct response to “Why would anyone jump out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft” was “You haven’t seen the plane…”

If they REALLY want to pull his leg they should put Julio or Sally in the pilot seat and pretend (S)HE’s flying 😛 That’ll get Chuck out fast enough I think 😛

“pulling your leg”…I see what you did there…no charge for the additional gag

PS is that a Skyservant they are using?

It is a DO 128 based in LOXN ( Wiener Neustadt AUSTRIA). IT was flying The whole afternoon today …

Where’s his chute? No wonder he doesn’t want to go… 🙂

And I thought our local jump plane Doris (http://www.netairspace.com/photos/OH-EKO/Skydive_Oulu/Cessna_182P_Skylane/OUL_EFOU_Oulu/photo_3975/) was bright, but that one is spectacular.

Anyone else notice the tail number is cut off so it says DIED? Lol! That should boost Chuck’s confidence…

I remember being told there is no such thing, and if you have ever jumped from a c-130, where the mecanical innards are exposed for the amusment of the inmates, you’ll know what I mean!

Am I wrong, or does this particular Skyservant look like Julio in one of his happy moments? Very rare in the presence of Chuck!
    Just look here: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Paraclub-Wiener-Neustadt/Dornier-Do-28G-92-Skyservant/1520630/L/&sid=3da7278923f6cbe0615a041f59bb6b18
@ A.C. You are right. That reminds me of a british aerobatic four-ship formation whose reggies were completely innocuous until they were lined up in the right sequence so the last letters of their reggies read F**K. 😀

@Ed – he’s signed up for a tandem. He’ll be clipped to the instructor, the instructor has the parachute.

Tandem rigs don’t allow for the second to have a parachute, since the tandem links are kept short – there’s no room for the pack!

  12. Fabo says:

Out of curiosity, Stef, Is that the same plane YOU jumped of?

  13. Ed says:

    @JKelley Of course… *facepalm*

That gives me an idea.. Every skydiving company should have completely outdated aircraft to get the skydivers out! I think that STAYING in the plane would be even scarier than jumping out…

Whoops! Sorry for the double post…
