Thank you everybody who participated in the “favorite one-liner” contest! We definitely got our fair share of chuckles out of your contributions and I would have learned a great deal of funny lines, if I were able to remember stuff like that!
So we’ve rolled the dice again and here are the lucky two people who will get an advance copy of our new book “Chicken Wings 4 – Gold Rush”:
Peter Fabian, who posted on our facebook page, and
“kkrummy” who posted in our forum!
Congratulations, gentlemen! We will get in touch with you regarding the details!
Well, the books are starting to trickle in and we are getting things ready and organized for the big release. Of course, we can’t wait to give you the new book to see what you guys think about it so we thought we will raffle off two advance copies.
So here is, you’ve guessed it, another contest!
Enter by posting your favorite one-liner for the drawing of two copies of Chicken Wings 4 “Gold Rush”! Here are the rules:
Post a good one-liner (they don’t have to be “your” own quotes) in our forum, or on twitter, or facebook and you will be automatically entered into the drawing for the new book. Then we will roll the dice on the guys with the funniest lines. If you submit more than just one funny line, feel free to do so, but your name will still only enter the drawing once. As an example, two of my personal favorites are:
“Dear IRS, please cancel my subscription”
“My mother never saw the irony in calling me a son-of-a-bitch.” By Jack Nicholson.
DEADLINE for your entries is TUESDAY next week, June 19th 2012!
As always, anonymous posts and posts in the blog underneath the daily strip will be difficult for us. We would like to be able to notify you in case you win the drawing and that’s easier from our forum, Facebook or Twitter.
If you’re not a forum member yet, all you need to do is sign up and post one post. We will not send you any of the annoying marketing campaigns, newsletters, and such nor use your info for any third party, honestly!
To receive our newsletter (which goes out about every other month or so), you can sign up here.
As promised, we are revealing the cover of our newest book today! Tadaa!
The name is “Chicken Wings 4 – Gold Rush” and we’re really proud about this book! Actually, we thought the last one was pretty much perfect when it came to colors and printing and binding quality, so we tried to make this one an exact copy. The big, official release will happen in Oshkosh this year. So, if you’re going to come to the EAA authors corner, we will be hanging out there quite a lot!
A week before Oshkosh, starting at around July 15th, you will be able to order it exclusively in our online shops. And after Oshkosh, it will be available in most well-sorted pilot shops around the world.
We’re really excited about this and are looking forward to how you all will like it!
Guess the cover contest.
Last but not least, we would like ot announce the winner of our “guess the cover contest”. This time we didn’t have to decide by the roll of the die, but it still wasn’t as easy as we thought. We have come to the conclusion that “Jupiter” from our forum has come closest to the actual motif with his guess “Julio holding Chuck out of the side door of the Roost Air Twin Otter in mid-air”.
Thanks everybody who participated, and congratulations, Jupiter, your unique print will be on it’s way soon!
Next week we will reveal the title and cover of our new fourth book that will come out this summer!
As a little teaser, we thought we might give you a little clip from the cover and let you all guess what the motif will be. And to make it a bit more interesting, we decided to turn this into one of our (by now) notorious contests!
You have one week to tell us what you think is on the cover, and the person whose description gets the closest to the actual cover motif wins!
The prize will be absolutely unique this time, namely the #1 proof page that we got from our printer. It is literally the only one that exists!
Acceptable entries are descriptions or drawings! You can post your entry either on this page in our forum.
DEADLINE for your entries is TUESDAY next week, May 29th 2012!
Anonymous posts and posts in the blog underneath the daily strip don’t count. We would like to be able to notify you in case you win the drawing and that’s easier from Facebook or the forum. Here is what the prize looks like:
So I went skydiving last Saturday!
Charlie, a reader, fellow forum member and avid skydiver set me up for a tandem jump at his club in Wr. Neustadt (www.paraclub.at), which is only 20 minutes from where I live. What can I say? It was awesome!!
It certainly was a unique experience for me! I was nervous and excited, but didn’t feel scared at any point, because Joe, my tandem master, had a very calm and experienced aura about him. The Do 28 D2 Skyservant, supposedly Europe’s fastest climbing skydiving plane, took us up to 4000m in no time, where we exited in a double forward somersault.
The act of jumping out of the plane was actually the highlight! Another great fact was that Charlie went on the same plane and took pictures of my adventure with his helmet mounted camera.
On the way down the three of us met and Charlie was fliming everything with his hemlet camera. I was so busy screaming and smiling at the camera (smiling at this speed really freezes your teeth!) that the 50 seconds of freefall felt more like ten seconds.
It all was over quickly! I thought I would be able to see the plane pass overhead while we were somersaulting or to make a couple of turns, but I think my brain was so overwhelmed that it was impossible to take in all the stimuli rushing in on it. Joe then opened the chute and we were gliding down for about 5 minutes, enjoying the great view on this sunny day.
At this point, the fact that I didn’t eat lunch seemed to catch up with me, because I started feeling sick. But fortunately Joe didn’t make any hasty maneuvers or steep turns, so we managed to touch down before it got really bad. Note to self: Apparently not eating will not prevent me from motion sickness.
To sum it all up: I can only recommend this to all you boys and girls out there! And I would like to thank Charlie and Joe and everybody at the club for this amazing experience!! I hope I’ll be able to repeat this some day…
Tell us about your favorite strip and enter to win a Silver Chicken!
It is still our 10th anniversary year and we thought we should have another event to celebrate with you guys. So we decided to give away one of the last few remaining “Silver Chicken” coins that we had minted for this occasion and have another contest for you!

This one is an easy one and everybody gets one vote.
Simply tell us which one of our comic strips is your favorite and you’re automatically entered for the drawing of another Silver Chicken!
Here is how:

The strip number is found between the panels after the “© Michael and Stefan Strasser”.

Hi there, friends! I have tried to upgrade our forum today, but somehow there’s a glitch and some of the info doesn’t show… I haven’t yet managed to fix it yet, so please bear with me! I just have to go to bed now, because it’s already 2AM here. EDIT: That problem has already been resolved, and our forum is working again, with a slight design change.
And secondly, someone’s trying to delete the Wikipedia Page about Chicken Wings. If there’s any active Wikipedia Editors out there, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for your help/patience and good night!
As I mentioned yesterday, I got to meet Gary Clark from “Swamp” last month.
We originally found him because one of his characters, “Ding Duck” is an eternal flight student who is just not very good at flying. But just like Chuck, he is a very positive bird who never gives up. Through google and searching for other aviation cartoons we came across “Swamp” many years ago and loved Gary’s work right away.
Years later, we were able to work with him briefly when we were collaborating while putting together the Martin Leeuwis books of aviation comic collections from all over the world. While meeting with Gary in Brisbane, I found out that “Ding Duck” now has his own book. It’s a huge collection of all kinds of flight school, duck flying, and military duck cartoons and it is funny!
It was great to see how other cartoon artists work and what their inspirations are.
Check out Gary’s website. I promise you, youll be hooked!
Ding Duck book now available in our shop
The best thing for all the Swamp fans out there in the States: We now have the “Ding Duck” book in our shop! As far as we know, we are the only ones to carry it in the US, so if you always wanted to have it, but didn’t want to pay the shipping from Australia, here’s your chance!
We were recently interviewed by Phil Hampton for his “Webcomic Marketing Masterclass“.

It consists of a book, videos and a series of interviews with a whole range of artists (including us!), covering the various aspects you should know about if you want to prosper in the world of webcomics.
So, if you ever thought about making your own comic, or if you already are and want to improve your results, this would certainly be a great investment! Also, you would get some background information about Chicken Wings and what our secret of success is.
He offers a special starter price of only $7.00, inclulding a full no quesitons asked money back guarantee for 60 days. This special offer lasts for about 8 days as the time of writing, so you better be quick!
ONLINE SHOPPERS REJOICE!
We have a new online shopping system!
As computer half-literates, running our own online shops has always been a challenge for us in the past. But we’ve lived and learned (a lot!) and have decided that it was about time we reacted to all the feedback we received from you over the years. We really wanted to improve the shopping experience for you and make it easier for you to give us money in return for our “fowl” jokes. For this, we have focused on two major things: Simplicity and security.
We’ve thrown out tons of extra features and simplified the checkout process to a couple of easy steps. You will not have to sign up for anything or create an account! You will not have to be a paypal-user! You will no longer have to put in your shipping and billing info numerous times! All you’re gonna have to do is enter the data once, and every transmission of the data will be through Paypal’s secure connection. We have also added more items to our stores again.
To celebrate the launch, and to get all of you to do your Christmas shopping early, we offer a
20% discount on all Chicken Wings and Martin Leeuwis books until Nov. 26th!
