I’ll be visiting the AERO Expo in Friedrichshafen next week! I will be signing books at the Fliegermagazin booth (A5-325) at 11:00 on Thursday and 15:00 on Friday, for approximately an hour each. So if you want to meet me, that’d be the best place to come and say hi. I’m always happy to meet fans and have a chat! I’ll bring our new German book and even a handful of Italian books, but, of course, all our stuff in English as well.
The Fliegermagazin booth is going to be my base camp, so your best chance of meeting me will be there. Outside of my scheduled signing hours I will be randomly roaming the halls and tarmac, but if you see me and recognize me, don’t hesitate to make contact. I respond to “Stefan”, “Stef”, “Chicken Wings Guy!”, “Hey!” and “Yo!”.
Looking forward to see you there!
We finally did it! After about fifteen years of drawing Chicken Wings and after being asked about it over and over again, we finally managed to publish our first book in our mother tongue. We decided to not proceed in chronological order, but start with our latest issue, which is why our first German book has the number four on its cover.
Translating was no simple task. Mike wasn’t of much help, because he’s been living in the States for so long that his aviation vocabulary is almost exclusively English. (Or rather, American, haha.) So I was basically stuck with doing the whole translation myself. The fact that there’s a lot of aviation lingo that’s often not translated, radio talk, plays on words and limited space in the speech bubbles has led me towards a new level of respect for the profession of translators. But anyway, we got it done!
The most crucial factor of success is an economical one though. We finally found a great printer that allows us to print smaller quantities at reasonable prices, which so far was the biggest obstacle to experimental publications. We have also changed the format to a smaller size and put more strips per page. That way we managed to give you exactly the same content at the same price.
So, please check it out! It is available now through our European Online Shop! I will also be selling and signing the book at AERO in Friedrichshafen in a couple of weeks (more details about when and where exactly coming soon), and you’ll be able to get it through well-assorted pilot shops in Germany soon. E.g. Siebert has already ordered some …
Viel Spaß beim Lesen!
Dear friends and fans of Chicken Wings in Germany, Austria and Europe in general!
I have a couple of announcements!
Comic Con Austria in Linz, 19. – 20. 3.
It’s a bit short notice, but I’ve been invited to the Comic Con in Linz, Austria in ten days! I’ll be sitting at an artists table. So, if you live somewhere close, or happen to pass through, it’d be awesome if you can stop by to pay me a visit! Here are the details:
When: 19.-20. March 2016, Sa. 10:00 – 18:00 Uhr | So. 10:00 – 16:00 Uhr
Where: Designcenter Linz
The convention is conveniently timed to coincide with the Nextcomic Festival, which takes place in Linz every year.
Those who come to see me are in for a special treat! I will be presenting our first Chicken Wings book in German!
“Chicken Wings 4 – Goldrausch” Coming Soon!
… really soon! We’ve been wanting to translate and publish our books in German for many, many years now. It is our mother tongue, after all, and people have been asking us about it since the very beginning. Behind the scenes, we’ve been working on it for what feels like forever, but now the stars have finally aligned and the day is at hand! We’ve decided to start with our latest book (Gold Rush) and then work our way back. Or maybe forward at the same time, since book number 5 is in the planning stages as well. Anyway, “Chicken Wings 4 – Goldrausch” is being printed as I type this! We are literally shivering with antici … pation! So, if you make it to Linz, you’ll be able to get your hands on the books on which the ink will barely have been dried!
If you can’t make it to Linz, you can always come to …
Aero Friedrichshafen, 20. – 23. 4.
Where I will also be making an appearance! I’ll be there on Thursday 21. and Friday 22. Most likely, you’ll be able to find me at the Fliegermagazin area again, but I will keep you posted with further details as soon as I know them. Of course, I will also be bringing our new German book there!
Hey there, fellow chicken aviators!
We are in the VERY EARLY planning stages of the next book. A lot will change this time, the printer, the format, some logistical and technical issues behind the scenes will be fixed, but fear not Chuck and Julio will stay the same. But we have come to the first big hurdle:
One thing Stef and I can’t agree on at the moment is what will be on the cover of the next book. SHould we do more chickens? less chickens? more planes? less planes? put the Corsair on the cover again which has been suggested before numerous times. We are confused and undecided, and on top of that DIVIDED!
We need you guys as a tie-breaker! So we thought we would turn it into yet another contest/raffle. Write us what you think would be funny, or cool, or awesome on the next cover. We will then raffle off 2 “Roost Air” hats from your entries. Multiple entries are allowed since we want as many ideas as possible.
And we will let you know where the hats go in a week from now on Wednesday the 16th.
Hey there, people! Like every year, we’re having a big Thanksgiving sale, in order to incentivize you all to get your Christmas shopping done early, and make sure you get all your Chicken Wings related presents in time. This year, we’ve decided to just make one big event out of the whole thing and have the sales for a few days straight. It starts as of now, and ends with the end of Cyber Monday. This year, we will give you a whopping 25% off your entire order! I know it’s crazy, but what can you expect from people incessantly drawing thousands of little chickens for almost 15 years now … Click on the image below to shop away!
Don’t forget to use the coupon code “BF2015″ (without the quotes) during checkout!
For those with memories as bad as mine, and those who just missed the announcement recently: I will be attending the first ComicCon in Vienna a week from now! Check it out, they even have thrown up an extra page for yours truly!
I will have a table in in the Artist Alley signing and selling books and hopefully talking to some of you guys. Be sure to stop by and say hi! I will also be part of a panel discussion on stage, and have at least one interview scheduled, but I’ll probably be at my table 75% of the time.
The show times are:
Saturday, November 21, 2015: 10:00 – 19:00
Sunday, November 22, 2015: 10:00 – 17:00
So, to quote one of my favorite authors: “Bee there or be a rectangular thynge!” (three bonus points for people who can guess the right book).
And on a different note, I would also like to congratulate Leigh for winning the Corsair Mug raffle! We were happy that we got that many reactions from you all. It’s weird: Sometimes you plan a contest for weeks, paying attention to every little detail etc. and the participation rate is mediocre, and sometimes you just throw a quick idea out there in the spur of the moment, and it totally takes off. Maybe we should do even more flying by the seat of our pants around here than we already do, haha!
As you guys know, Chuck, and Mike, and Stefan all love Corsairs and everything surrounding Corsairs and everything related to this awesome WWII fighter plane, the F4U Corsair. So it might not come as a surprise to you that we have a ton of Corsair Memorabilia and probably a few extras laying around. Let’s do a quick Roost-Air Raffle and give away a free Corsair mug to “aviation up” your kitchen.
(did I use the word “Corsair” enough in a sentence correctly?)
The rules are: Post your comment in the … uhm … “comment” section by clicking on “comment” underneath this post on our website and wait until Tuesday. If your “comment” isn’t airport related, it won’t enter the contest 😉
I think that’s it. Comments posted on facebook are welcome but won’t enter the contest since we don’t want to exclude non-facebook users. And don’t worry, posting a comment on our website doesn’t sign you up for a newsletter, spam, or anything else. Just post your name and email. Doesn’t even need to be your real name but should be your real email if you want to be notified as the winner 😉
We want to see where you guys think the coolest airports are! So…… GO!
Big news, everyone! I am going to be attending the first ComicCon in Vienna next month! And by „attending“ I mean „being invited as a special guest“. It seems the prophet has some honor in his own country after all! At least when he’s proselytizing the good word of chickens.
There’s a whole bunch of other guest stars coming too, most of them probably more famous than me. Besides comic artists of various ilks, there will also be actors from Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and Breaking Bad. Personally, I’m also looking forward to all the Cosplayers roaming the halls.
I will have a table in in the Artist Alley pushing my wares, signing books and hopefully talking to lots of fans. Be sure to stop by and say hi! I will also be part of a panel discussion on stage, and have at least one interview scheduled, but I’ll probably be at my table 75% of the time.
So, if you’re living in Vienna or in the vicinity, what better way to spend a probably wet, cold and foggy November weekend than geeking out in the warm cozy halls of the Messe Wien? I’d certainly be happy to meet you!
The show times are:
Saturday, November 21, 2015: 10:00 – 19:00
Sunday, November 22, 2015: 10:00 – 17:00
Here’s the website: http://www.viecc.com/en/home/
Woohoo! We’re having a drawing contest! To enter, all you have to do is draw your favorite Chicken Wings character or aircraft (anything Chicken Wings related, really) and post it as a image in a comment HERE on our Facebook page! Everybody can vote by liking the submissions. And to make it a bit exciting, we’re giving away some prizes. Here’s what you can win:
1st Prize: The picture with the most likes will win you a $100 gift voucher for one of our online shops.
2nd Prize: The second best entry will receive a custom, Chicken Wings style profile picture hand-drawn by Stef.
Raffle Prize: Among all entrants, we will raffle off a $50 gift voucher. So you don’t have to be a Leonardo da Vinci to win! (Although it may help you, of course).
You can submit and vote until Tuesday, March 3rd!
Good luck everyone!!

Also, we recently created our very own Youtube Channel! Check it out HERE! We’ve uploaded four videos so far. Two of those videos are short tutorials on how to draw Chuck and Julio, perfectly timed for the drawing contest! Also, you can watch Mike autorotate with a Huey and a watch the Chicken Wings Cessna taxi in Henderson, Las Vegas.
We haven’t yet gotten around to creating our own animated show (a project we’ve been dreaming about for years), but if we ever do, now at least we have our Youtube channel ready!
As some of you might know, our chickens went digital in the form of Kindle back in 2012 when this book came out. It was quite a learning process for us in this new scary digital world. We spent a lot of research and bought many other Kindle comics to see what guys were doing and what we didn’t like in order to make this book a better experience for our readers.
At the time, color readers had just come out and we didn’t have the variety we have now. There also weren’t a whole lot of Kindle comics out back and a lot of them seemed clunky and hard to use which we are sure has changed by now. Some were just scanned images with no function and options. Hopefully we did a better job than that.
We were curious to see if any of you tuning in on regular basis have the Kindle Version and what you thought of it. Maybe even share a little review with us on Amazon?
Please let us know. If we see a lot of interest, we might come out with more apps and Kindle stuff in the near future.
