Woohoo! We’re having a drawing contest! To enter, all you have to do is draw your favorite Chicken Wings character or aircraft (anything Chicken Wings related, really) and post it as a image in a comment HERE on our Facebook page! Everybody can vote by liking the submissions. And to make it a bit exciting, we’re giving away some prizes. Here’s what you can win:
1st Prize: The picture with the most likes will win you a $100 gift voucher for one of our online shops.
2nd Prize: The second best entry will receive a custom, Chicken Wings style profile picture hand-drawn by Stef.
Raffle Prize: Among all entrants, we will raffle off a $50 gift voucher. So you don’t have to be a Leonardo da Vinci to win! (Although it may help you, of course).
You can submit and vote until Tuesday, March 3rd!
Good luck everyone!!

Also, we recently created our very own Youtube Channel! Check it out HERE! We’ve uploaded four videos so far. Two of those videos are short tutorials on how to draw Chuck and Julio, perfectly timed for the drawing contest! Also, you can watch Mike autorotate with a Huey and a watch the Chicken Wings Cessna taxi in Henderson, Las Vegas.
We haven’t yet gotten around to creating our own animated show (a project we’ve been dreaming about for years), but if we ever do, now at least we have our Youtube channel ready!
As some of you might know, our chickens went digital in the form of Kindle back in 2012 when this book came out. It was quite a learning process for us in this new scary digital world. We spent a lot of research and bought many other Kindle comics to see what guys were doing and what we didn’t like in order to make this book a better experience for our readers.
At the time, color readers had just come out and we didn’t have the variety we have now. There also weren’t a whole lot of Kindle comics out back and a lot of them seemed clunky and hard to use which we are sure has changed by now. Some were just scanned images with no function and options. Hopefully we did a better job than that.
We were curious to see if any of you tuning in on regular basis have the Kindle Version and what you thought of it. Maybe even share a little review with us on Amazon?
Please let us know. If we see a lot of interest, we might come out with more apps and Kindle stuff in the near future.
Due to popular demand and because we think we kinda sprung this on you without much notice yesterday we have decided to extend our 20% discount for a few days.
We also think Chuck’s term of “Cyborg Monday” was really funny and had a blast making the last comic strip. So let’s extend the offer until “Cyborg Monday” is over with the hopes Chuck will survive this horrible day in history!
Keep using the discount code “CHUCKBF2014” until the end of Monday and keep in mind that this code will discount products already discounted even more! Mind blown! We know, right?! ….
Hey there, fellow Aviators and Aviation fans!
Going with the times, the chickens will take Thanksgiving off (except Stefan, since he lives in “the old world”, and Hans since he still hasn’t caught on) and have a Black Friday deal for you! Chuck is slashing the prices on all Roost-Air gear, gifts and books! Get your Christmas Shopping done early!
On Friday, use promo code “CHUCKBF2014″ during checkout! It’s easy to remember, think “Chuck is my Best Friend” or “Chuck Black Friday”!
And in other news:
The ones among you who keep track of us on our Website, Facebook and Twitter may have seen a few similarities between Chicken Wings and “AviatorWebsite.com” lately. We have been working for AviatorWebsite for many years already (well, mostly Stefan) in form of designing all kinds of Greeting Cards and parts of the website.
After initially teaming up, Roost-Air ended up taking control of AviatorWebsite entirely (see? This happens everywhere in aviation, not just the airline industry). With this we were able to re-launch Stefan’s designs of fun Aviation Christmas Cards which we are very excited about. We’re especially excited about the “Santa’s Adventures” Series which we think is extremely funny.
Our plan is to eventually merge the two websites and have AviatorWebsite run the shipping and handling for the Chicken Wings Online shop in the States. But this will still take a little while since Chicken Wings currently ships worldwide and AviatorWebsite only domestic US and Canada.
But eventually the goal will be to offer you an even wider variety of fun aviation gifts, books, t-shirts, and other fun flying related stuff on a better, easier to navigate, secure online shop platform.
So come check out both websites this Winter and stay tuned for more news on the merger. AviatorWebsite will also be running a 20% off deal on Black Friday for those of you who live in the US or Canada!
Fellow Aviators behold! We have another Airplane Coloring Book!
We were down to only 3 boxes of our first coloring book and it was time to re-print. So we thought instead of re-printing the same thing,
let’s just make a completely new coloring book with new images. And this is what we came up with.
Having some experience with coloring books by now we made some changes which should improve your kids’ (or your) coloring experience. We spent a good deal of time test-coloring on all kinds of different papers in order to find one that’s rough enough so the crayon sticks to it well and thick enough so you don’t have colors shine through when you flip the page, yet thin enough to keep shipping costs low. The test coloring was the fun part!
We have also changed the font so it shows upper and lower case letters properly in case schools wanted to use it. This was something we didn’t think of when we made our first coloring book. We had an Elementary School class help us with the aircraft descriptions and bylines and make the appropriate corrections to our less than perfect English skills. Thank you Mrs. Breaux and the kids of Summerville Elementary School for your help! We also set out to find a small business local printer instead of giving our money to a big corporate machine.
The cover is just as glossy but we made it a little thinner to improve shipping costs for our wholesale customers. Just like in the last book we have a great mix of airplanes, jets, helicopters, and puzzles in there and added a few firefighting aircraft, which of course are near and dear to Mike’s heart.
Amazing how much thought and planning goes into a simple coloring book, isn’t it?
But wait, there’s more! Best of all, we were able to get you a lower price!
And as always, please write us and tell us what you think!
We have great news for all our friends and fans from Italy! Our first book has just been published in Italian! We have started a partnership with an Italian publisher, and the great folks at LoGisma Editore have embarked on the project of translating all our work into Italian. The plan is to publish all our books, one by one, in the order they were published by us. So, logically, our first book was the first in line.
For all the Facebookers among you, there is a “Chicken Wings Italia” Facebook page that you can like and share.
So, dear friends and fans in Italy, please help us make this a success! Show your support to our friends at LoGisma and JP4 magazine (who have been translating and printing our strips for many years now) so you can soon enjoy all our stuff in Italian!
Spring is in full swing, at least in most places, and here are some news from the coop for you!
FAVORITE CHARACTER CONTEST
It’s time for another contest!
We want to know who your favorite Chicken Wings Character is! Simply post his or her name and a short explanation why you like them underneath todays comic and/or on facebook. Or you can tweet us as well.
You’ll automatically be entered into a drawing for a “No decaf” coffee mug! As a second prize we’ll also give away our new book “Chucks Helicopter Adventures”.
The rules are simple and we’ll randomly draw the names next Monday and announce the winner next Tuesday!
Stefan is going to be at the AERO convention in Friedrichshafen again. This year, instead of just roaming the halls, he will be signing books at the Fliegermagazin booth!
So everybody who will be there on Thursday or Friday, be sure to drop by and say hi! The exact times of the signing aren’t set yet, but we will keep you updated on our website and Facebook page.
The show goes from Wednesday, April 9th to Saturday, April 12th.
Take a look at “Tozzle Words“, an iPhone app for kids. It is a very well made word puzzle that teaches kids how to spell in multiple entertaining levels of playful learning.
The developers put a lot of almost neurotic love for detail in the game. Stefan was hired for the graphics, as long-time readers of Chicken Wings will be quickly able to tell by the drawing style. Check it out!
I wonder if curling is the sport he would pick, but as long as heli skiing is not an Olympic discipline, I can’t think of a more suitable sport. At least he can keep on his sunglasses then!
Well it’s been a while since we had some extra-curricular activities here at Roost Air, but now we finally have some news again for you! Here we go …
15% CHRISTMAS DISCOUNT
Born out of the necessity to ship you your goodies on time, our Christmas Discount in our online shops has now turned into a yearly tradition for us! This year it’s 15% across the board, if you place your order until Tuesday, December 10th.
Important: You must enter the promo code CHRISTMAS at checkout for the discount to work! Happy shopping!
CHUCK’S HELICOPTER ADVENTURES
This is our first comic book just for you with 36 pages of Chuck’s helicopter adventures!
We are trying something new this time by going with a classic comic book / magazine type format and focusing simply on just a bunch of Chuck’s colorful helicopter comics. By dropping the fancy thick book cover we are able to give this to you for a classic comic book price as well.
Included in this book are our collection of helicopter and helicopter-related strips from Chuck’s adventures, some of them from our other books but with previously unpublished material included as well.
Also new is that we are including a few very early black-and-white classics with a little history about how they came to be and stories about the initial days of Chicken Wings.
You can now pay us with Bitcoin! Our shop software doesn’t enable us yet to offer you an integrated payment system, so we can only do this manually. Just send us an email with a list of stuff you want to buy, your address and any gift or promo codes you potentially possess, and we will reply to you as quickly as possible with the total of your purchase in Bitcoin currency, and the Bitcoin address for the transaction.
The price of Bitcoin is volatile. In order to be fair to both parties and even out some of the daily spikes, we will look up the global average price of the day that you sent your email on bitcoinaverage.com and use the daily average exchange rate for our conversion.
Stef wanted to do this for over a year now, but those of us who know us, also know how slow we are with implementing changes in our website. But now that Bitcoin got a new level of publicity, we want to seize the opportunity to jump on the bandwagon. If we’re late or early, time will tell, but we’re intrigued by the idea of a truly decentralized global currency and wanted to contribute our tiny share to its success.
Calling all Chicken Wings fans from Austria and vincinity! I will be going to Air Expo in Zell am See, Austria next weekend! It takes place on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 7th and 8th) at the Zell am See airport. We’ll have our own Chicken Wings booth! So, if you’re already planning on going there, please make sure to drop by and pay me a visit at our table! I’ll be there the whole time, flogging and signing our books.
If you live close by and are still on the fence, well, now you’ve got another reason to go! And if you’re based somewhere further away, you can maybe combine the visit to the expo with a short vacation in the beautiful landscape of Salzburg. There’s a very beautiful lake, just a stone’s throw away from the airport, as the name “Zell am See” suggests.
Hope to see you there!
EDIT: I originally posted the wrong days: It’s Saturday and Sunday, 7.-8. Sept. !!
