With Top Gun they really managed to produce an iconic film. I wonder why it is so hard to make a decent movie about flying, but I don’t know a lot of aviation themed movies that I really enjoyed. Just recently I’ve watched “Flyboys” and was quite disappointed. The computer graphics were too obvious, the pilots are always able to look into each others eyes and read each others faces (even their enemies’ faces) while up in the air, and the whole plot wasn’t too great either.
A movie that I really enjoyed was “Sky Fighters” (Les chevaliers du ciel), a French movie. The air shots and cinematography rivals that of Top Gun! So, especially you Americans out there who don’t watch European movies that much, you should really check that one out!
Do any of you have some more movie recommendations for me? I’d be grateful! Please share, either down below this post, in our forum or on Facebook!
While Chuck and Julio are reminiscing about the good old days (I can’t believe Top Gun is already over 25 years old!), we here at Chicken Wings are embracing the future. And by that I want to say that we have just published our first eBook! Our newest book is now available for your Kindle through Amazon:
Check it out! All the strips to take on the road in their colorful glory!
That kinda reminds me of our childhood. I think we watched Top Gun at least a dozen times back then, and when we were playing outside with the other kids from the block, we used to ride our bicycles and pretend they were fighter jets. We even drew an aircraft carrier deck on a backstreet with chalk, where we would take off and land… Good times!
This is another one of my personal favorites. The artwork is great and the glider looks like you can step in and fly away. But the ending in this one is something we haven’t done before. We wanted to lead up to a certain obvious punch line and then end with something that makes absolutely no sense. Or does it?
Maybe our heroes are deeper than we think. HA HA, yeah, right.
Also, I have finally started to post pictures from my adventures in Oshkosh! Check them out in the forum under “Oshkosh 2011”. And join us in the forum if you haven’t yet. We always love to see new faces!
Four movie quotes from two of our favorite movies in just one strip! Not bad, huh?
Sometimes I have additional ideas for the strip, but way too late. Right now I was thinking, while saying “I find your lack of faith disturbing”, Chuck should be reaching out with his hand, like Darth Vader does towards Admrial Motti. Well, anyway, the strip works the way it is!
