Streak of bad landings
Well, as the saying goes, any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. To have a constant sense of success and achievement, the trick is to set the bar low enough. As a natural born perfectionist, I struggle with this idea every day, but I’m getting better at it. Getting a house was probably the best therapy in that regard, because whatever I do, nothing ever turns out perfect. But a lack of time and money helps me to embrace the concept of “it’ll do” or “good enough for now”.

Benjamin, In my opinion, you were right the first time. I’d go with the verb “is” with the subject of the sentence being the noun phrase “14 years” referring to a singular period of time.
Here’s the thing though…. Maybe Julio just made a mistake himself, not the author. Not every comic book character has to use perfect English.
We could turn it into “14 years ain’t no streak, that be a carreer!”
But seriously, I understand the confusion, and we sometimes ponder over questions like that for way longer than we should. Now that I think about it, “is” sounds more right to me. But now I’m too lazy to change it, and, as Ricky pointed out, comic characters can make grammatical mistakes too! 🙂
Julio is allowed to misspeak occasionally… And Chuck (AKA “Captain Kangaroo”) would shock everyone in the tower if he suddenly started greasing them all, even with crosswinds, wake turbulence and microbursts.
