Stuck elevator

This is troubleshooting on the same level of “did you turn it off and on again?” or “Is it plugged in?”. I think we’ve all been there and done that multiple times. At least I can claim that I have never forgot to remove the control lock!

At least Chuck is doing a pre flight this time!

  2. Bernd says:

So Chuck actually does a preflight now? Good for him!

I think we have all been there, probably more than once. 🙂

The bigger embarrassment is when you forget to untie the tail tie-down. Engine running, ATIS/AWOS received, ready to taxi. Airplane doesn’t move, even at full power. Not saying I’ve done that… (Actually I don’t think I have, but only because my instructor reminded me. She later said she should have let me learn that lesson the hard way, as she did when she learned to fly.) Similar, and much more common in my daily life, is when my car doesn’t want to move, I finally realize that the parking brake is set.

Well, at least not in flight… 😉

Well, you could CLAIM that …

I haven’t miss a control lock, but the worst I’ve done in this fashion was screw up with a cable internet modem. My modem had a internet “off” button, that gave no visual indication that it was activated, all the status lights showed on and up like normal. Well one time my internet was down for a day and a half so I called them and said so. The tech support guy says everything shows that the system is up and my modem is on and functioning. That was when it came to me, I reached down and hit the button and low and behold I had internet access. So I told him that everything was fine now, and something he did must have fixed the problem. There was no way I was going to admit that that I had ether forgot that I had turned it off or accidentally hit it and didn’t think to check it for 2 days.

Thankfully I only fly simulated aircraft. Forgetting a controllock on takeoff in a B-17 is rather eye opening after a 13 hour flight 4am in the morning. It also helps when you are like Chuck and don’t do preflight only to discover major oil leaks and all sorts of other things… unwillingly falling out of your aircraft. It does make for some quality entertainment though, especially if it’s your buddies trying to make it back to the field on fire and with more control surfaces missing than I can name when being that intoxicated. Oh fun times 😀

    I thought chuck always done pre-flight: 1 prop, 2 wings, 3 tyres, lets roll…..

  10. L says:

I agree, the real Chuck does not do a proper preflight. Like Steve pointed out, at most he counts “1 prop, 2 wings, 3 tires, let’s fly”.
    Something smells fishy here.
What have you done with real Chuck?!? 😀
